Historic Third Ward

Guards at the entrance were nice and helpful. They pointed us downstairs to the galleries. Which were empty: we didn't see anyone else our whole visit. The art was of various media, from painting, costumes, sculpture, videos, comics, and more. Something for everyone. And you can't beat the price. Though you do have to put some money in the meter. Took us about 40 minutes. Definitely a place to visit, with or without kids. Check on their site to see when they have exhibitions and what they are showing.

Nathan Hale was my high school. I always enjoyed my teachers here, though I have no clue as to how…read moreit might be today. The school offers a lot of different programs. I really liked that the school had a huge swimming pool and diving pool as well. They also have a summer program to teach young kids how to swim in the summer. If you love swimming , this school has a great program for swimmers. They have a good cross country team (Coach Kurt, who was the gym teacher at walker elementary) and when I was there in the 90's are basket ball team was great, who knows today? The wood shop class was a lot of fun here. I still have the end table that I made from a few pieces of oak. I wish I was able to complete my table that we were finishing, but I had to move. A few of my class mates and the kids I grew up with who attended here ended up going to Harvard and Yale. It's a good school. My only regret is that I wish I had applied myself better when I attended. I give the school five stars, as I feel the school did the best that they could, at least at that time. The teachers didn't give up and my history teacher who on the first day of class I thought was going to be the meanest lady I ever met, turned out to be the nicest and sweetest. That was a life lesson. Those who attended here during 94-98 probably without a doubt had the most fun here. Athough this has to do with politics, the school lunch program seriously needs to be changed. The food served was terrible. Our lunches consisted of French fries, Pizza, Burgers and fried tatter totters, and we wonder why childhood obesity is now becoming the norm. Of course, who could forget the vending machines full of sodas, chips and cookies.

Now I have a chance to start fresh, and I gotta say, I had a great experience working with Helena S. Benn at Herzing University South Region New Orleans Campus. From the beginning of the enrollment process, she was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and patient. I really appreciate when people are direct and can deliver information with grace. I never felt rushed asking questions or needing explanations about the program--I truly valued her approach. She responded to my emails lightning fast, making the whole process much smoother. Helena made everything easy to follow by using bullet points to clarify what I've already completed and what I still need to submit. Her transparency and support really helped me stay organized and motivated. Overall, my first impression is a 10/10. I highly recommend working with Helena if you're considering Herzing. She genuinely cares about her students and makes the process much less stressful. If you're looking for someone knowledgeable, kind, and responsive, she's definitely the right person to guide you on your educational journey.

It took her a month to retrieve my transcripts even though they were sent electronically within an hour. She would return calls weeks later and refer you to staff who would then refer me back to her. It was intimidating walking in and seeing all the gorgeous works but everyone there was incredibly welcoming and that extended into the Hand Building I class that I took. The instructor, Lila, was engaging, exciting, and incredibly knowledgeable (and she brought in fresh bread one week!). The class was a touch more free-range and self-directed than I expected but in the end I think that was really for the best - it pushed me to dive into my own creativity (what little there is) and in the end I will be walking away with a handful of fun pieces. I absolutely intend to come back for more classes and potentially signing up for a membership. Highly, highly recommend stopping by - check out the wares, support local, and maybe even sign up for your own class!
