In Giborim, you get to plan your own schedules. However, the staff had trouble appealing to the wide age ranges campers during unity events. As a fourth grader, I should not be forced to be forced to do head, shoulders, knees, and toes, as well as other childish games during Boker Tov aka their meet and greets! Bus rides to and from camp can be 45-60 minutes each way. Unit shelters are also very dirty, especially during or after rain storms. The food was also mediocre, and parents must comply with the camp's own "definition" of Kosher if they want to pack lunches. I was given a marshmallow fluff sandwich as an alternative lunch when my salad was soggy, which is far from healthy.

What they lack in the "grand" camp experience they make up for in personalized attention…read more They do not have the biggest campus, nor a lake. They have a smaller overall experience than a Jeff Lake or a Meadowbrook. Given that they don't quite have as much to offer, their price point is a touch high. However, they justify their price by having a smaller camper to counselor ratio. They are also better equipped to handle "special" or "difficult" campers, as they have the right people in place to ensure that all kids have fun and that all kids have a wonderful experience together. Furthermore, the staff takes time to give reports and updates on the experiences of each individual camper, and could not be better with parent communication. My son comes home with a smile and a great experience. He's happy and that makes me happy. They offer pick-up and drop-off right at your door. They even offer a small extended before and after camp program right at the JCC in West Orange.

It was great…read more-- they went (1) on field trips once or twice a week to very cool places, including a Broadway show, (2) swimming 3+ times a week with optional swimming lessons, (3) Austin St park daily, except when there was a field trip, and (4) other parks in the area. Each week had a theme of a different country, and they learned a few words in various languages, and about the food (cooking lessons), arts and crafts, and culture. I could see my kids' minds expanding. The counselors were friendly and enthusiastic. The director Kelli is wonderful. It was shut down for paperwork violations 2 weeks before the summer was over, but that doesn't change the fact that my kids had a wonderful summer. I will be enrolling them next summer as well. I have a babysitter after school now, but eventually plan to use WorldPlay for afterschool too.

When I would ask if they did XYZ, my child would say they didn't. I've frequently picked him up and the kids are in front of a movie, when they're supposedly scheduled for an activity or going to the park. Even then, in front of a movie and snacks, my son runs to be taken home - he hated it that much. A friend of mine have seen them at Austin Street park, where the counselors are talking to each other, the kids running like crazy, and no water or snacks are provided to them (counselors in other camps bring a huge bag of snacks). It's not camp, it's basically day care. It's fine if that's what you want, but be aware that they absolutely do not do everything that is advertised.

I know many people who have sent their kids there (and one of my best friends went to Kim's when he was a kid--he's 29 years old now. He loved it!) . All the kids rave about it. My son has already told me that he wants to go back again for next year. He says it's the best camp. The staff are wholesome and down to earth. The camp has so many fun activities and adventures--without wearing down the campers. The camp is super chill and relaxed yet maintaining campers' safety and protection. Another great thing is the intimacy of the camp director and staff. They really get to know us and they are super approachable and down to earth. They do not have any pretension or arrogance. They're the real-deal. And they take such good care of their staff. I am a union organizer--so I look at these sort of things. I can tell that they are always looking out for the campers AND the staff. I am touched by the support that the administration offers to the staff. I love the staff. They're all fascinating individuals who really love the campers. We are so grateful that we have an opportunity to send our son to such a fabulous space. We will be surely sending our son there again. The camp is super flexible. For instance, I have summer Fridays so I send my son there for 4 days instead of 5. It's great to be able to save that kind of money The camp (Sandra) sends out an email with updates about the plans for the following day with instructions etc. Sandra is very responsive to emails and offers personalized care. She was very empathetic and flexible to me when I had a miscarriage while I was registering my son for camp. That sort of care is immeasurable. In addition, every morning--the adorable Camp Director Dan gives us an update. Dan is awesome. He's like a real new yorker. He's been doing this camp for 30+ years. He says that he has basically made a camp that he wished he had when he was a kid. My son loves Dan's stories...actually all kids' love Dan's stories. He is amazing.

My son was registered at NYC Elite Gymnastics last year. As a warning for all parents signing up,…read moreyou must pay for the full month of classes regardless of whether the gym cancels classes or has no classes because of holidays. No credit is issued. My son was registered for November and December. The gym did not have classes in half of November and half of December because of the holidays. They do not give you credit for the missed classes so you end up paying twice the price and the monthly tuition is pricey to begin with! I called them on this and they said they only allow make-up classes BUT (and here is the kicker) they do not track the make-up classes AND it cannot be applied to your child's future classes for the same time and date AND you have to call them the week before to schedule the class on their availability, not yours. Since my son only takes gymnastics once a week on a certain day and time, it's really hard to find a second day and time in the same week for the makeup classes because all the classes we want are usually taken (weekdays after school and weekend mornings). Since they don't even track make-up classes, it seems like most parents end up not using them anyway. This seems really shady to me. We do like the classes but as a note, please sign up for the months where there are no holidays.

When they are closed you still have to pay the whole monthly amount and they offer a make up class instead. It's probably worth the cost if your child wants to become a gymnast in the future but $79 per class to learn how to do a cartwheel is just insane. Unfortunately there is no other gymnastics place nearby and they seem to take full advantage of that.
