I've had good haircuts here and my usual barbers have left. Took a chance on a new barber named Zara who gave me the worst attempt at a skin fade I've ever seen. I had to resort to scheduling an appointment with Floyd's the same night because she didn't even give me a fade whatsoever. She was clearly new or very inexperienced with fades. She forgot when my appointment time was, burned my neck twice with a hot razor, and used mostly scissors and a comb to attempt to fade my hair. She clearly saw the burns on my neck and didn't even address them or apologize. She drenched me with water to wet my hair and water dripped into my ears and mouth. Absolutely no attention to detail. I should have known better when I saw her pricing was $20. Filling this barber chair with this very low quality and competency level is just not right. read more

Love this place. Always feels like a warm and inviting place for a cut. They do it the old fashion way with a straight razor warm shaving cream finish. Ya can't get that at the chain places. Reasonable prices and excellent service by professionals. I usually walk in and they fit me into the schedule. Megan is amazing and always makes me feel welcome. Her work is excellent. It is said that the fear of public speaking is the most intense fear for many people. Probably just below that is the fear of having your hair cut by a new barber. My regular hair cutter was unavailable, and I was in urgent need of a haircut, so I perused Yelp for some ideas. I first rejected all the one $ places (the cheap, fast, chain operations), and picked a shop in my area that got some good reviews, and didn't seem to want to charge sixty-five dollars and sell you a club membership. Just a barber shop/haircut salon that did decent work. My fears were not borne out. The haircut was decent, the hair cutter pleasant. Was it a great haircut? No. Was it a bad haircut? Also no. I might go there again if my regular isn't back on her feet. The cut was quick, not really precise, too short in the back (and shorn to that length first thing, with a trimmer, and to a somewhat artificial line), but otherwise an improvement over the shaggy look I had developed. I'm glad I got the haircut. I needed it, and it looks pretty decent. Not the best around, but it is a step above the budget joints. Three stars isn't a bad review; it's just not a particularly good review. read more

DON'T GO AS A WALK IN; THEY WILL MAKE YOU WAIT AND WAIT, WHILE LAUGHING AND TALKING TO CUSTOMERS AND EACH OTHER. In fact, Don't go in at all. $22 and expecting a tip for basically a buzz cut with almost no trimming, after cutting off 95% of my father's hair, which was on the long side on purpose. I made a point to say that my father likes his hair long and the girl takes an electric buzz cutter and takes off starting with his side burns (no shaping!) and 2 inches all around his ears, 4 inches around the back. There was so little left that I told her not to cut any more hair but she didn't care... she kept buzz cutting. When I told her I wasn't happy this time, she got angry and began telling me off. I'm a big tipper... a crazy big tipper but this time... I left putting her $22 next to her cash register without a receipt and she yelled out the door, "Where do you think you're going?" I said, "I paid you." (I shouldn't have!) NEVER GOING BACK. read more

I've lived in Buffalo Grove for 10 years... how did I not find this place sooner? Christa is awesome - fast, thorough, and a great looking cut reflecting exactly what I asked for. And it looks like the rest of her crew can get the job done too. Two years can be a long time in the life of a business, and in the last year alone, the two "old guys" working here (Joe and Luke) have retired. Its still mostly a classic barber shop, not a unisex beauty parlor. As a longtime client of Luke's, I had to make that critical decision. I took my three year old for a haircut a few days ago. We only waited a couple minutes before we were taken back. Christa cut his hair. She was so great with my son. Usually he's very nervous to get his haircut but he warmed right up to her. She did a great job! It's perfectly even which is typically hard to do with a little kid. I LOVE coming to Artistic Barbers! Christa and Megan are always extremely professional, courteous, flexible, and friendly. I have never had a bad experience and recommend this place to all I know. They take every walk-in that comes through the door despite how jam-packed their schedules are. The phone is constantly ringing with calls from customers looking to book appointments; I'm amazed by the volume they handle! Everyone in my family comes to Megan: my husband comes regularly to keep a professional look, my son who likes to look as cool as his friends, and even my daughter who is particular about how much and when her hair is trimmed. In fact, we did a trial run in the shop on an updo for my daughter's Bat Mitzvah a few years ago. Megan did such a great job we had her come to our house the day of the event to do my daughter's hair as well as mine, and the compliments that night were effusive! I spend hours in the chair getting my hair colored and styled each time and I make a point of clearing my day so I can go there and enjoy myself because I am totally pampered and included in fun conversations! Megan and Christa are amazing professionals when it comes to knowing how to style my hair and more often than not I say "do what you want because I trust you!", and I've always been nervous about haircuts and coloring.
