By the looks of the other reviews on yelp my view of this place does not match the general consensus. I went for my first ever visit on Saturday and to be honest I was very underwhelmed by the whole experience. These guys have a great reputation but it seems like they are stuck in the past. Staff were totally aloof and seemed to busy trying to be super bohemian to provide a decent level of service. My flat White took ages to arrive. The blueberry muffin was very bland. The decor inside and the furniture all just seemed a bit dirty and dilapidated. The coffee itself was fine but nothing special. Not at all what I was expecting from such a highly rated coffee shop. 2 stars I am afraid.

Just a simple Latte. No sugar needed because it's incredible.

Real specialty coffee! Flavors are on spot. Service is great. I chose the Date & Vailla scone and it was amazing! The decor is nice and relaxed with some cool furniture pieces. I like that it's not all flawless decor Definitely a must stop location.

My coffee this morning. Not ideal when you pay £2.40.

Artisan Roast is, and will always be, the most divisive coffee place in Glasgow. While the coffee and cakes are always excellent, the surroundings and clientele are too much for some to stomach. As anyone who has visited the sister branches in Edinburgh will attest, Artisan Roast has a style, and as a result it does attract a certain hipstery-boho clientele. Put it this way, There Will Be Topknots. I'm not saying it isn't nice, but I am acutely aware of myself when I sit in. But let us not detract from the basics. The coffee is always excellent, and they actually know what a flat white should taste like (i.e It shouldn't taste like two shots of burned coffee with a dribble of frothy milk). The cake selection is enticing and, though I haven't sampled it yet, the food looks tasty. Definitely worth your time if you like good coffee. As an aside, I was in Artisan Roast about 18 months ago and I witnessed a clearly tired father trying to coax his child into sitting quietly while he tried to enjoy his coffee. What did he use as bait to keep his child preoccupied? A babycino and Scrabble.

So I was in Glasgow so thought I would give one of the cappuccino's a go. I decided to sit in and enjoy the coffee, however I wasn't impressed at all. I have had way better cappuccino before. The think that I will always think of when I remember/ walk past artisan roast is the strange odour in the place. I would recommend trying tinderbox on byres road instead, they are much better.

Disappointed is an understatement! I was really looking forward to trying out "the newest hipster coffee shop in town" but these guys are trying too hard. The Decor was cool all mis-matching furniture and the windows all steamed up. I ordered a latte, and after a extremely long wait our drinks arrive and it was average. I also had one of their blueberry muffin which again was average. The staff where just a bit rude to be honest. This little place has so much potential if they stop trying to be too cool as it's just coming across as an uncomfortable experience.

    Artisan Roast's festive decoration...so cute!

Artisan Roast just has a way of making you feel like the coolest kid in town as soon as you walk in: chilled music, friendly hipstery staff, and this sensation that you have just stepped into an old cabin in the woods, with dim lights and cosy wooden furniture. So, once in, just let your sense guide you. There is always a random selection of freshly baked things...I would not start to tell you which one to pick, because they change all the time, but you'll never be unsatisfied, whether you go for the carrot cake or the blueberry muffin. They also have vegan things there to please everyone. Then, have a look at their brew bar, where they use all kinds of brewing techniques, to match with your choice of coffee from all over the world. It you want something more traditional, or just don't want to wait for a brew, which can be a bit lengthy, just grab an Americano to go, like I do, and have a perfect start of the day!

In a nutshell, the Artisan Roast is really great coffee, accompanied with excellent food. Oh, and it's not too pricey either. We just had a lunch there if 2 coffees, one big slice of tart and a bowl of soup, it came to about £10. The tart was amazing, broccoli, rosemary and onion in a cream and cheese sauce, which I could have eaten a whole pan of. The soup today was roasted butternut squash and coconut milk, equally more-ish. I can recommend it enough, what a great wee place with great staff.

First you go down an alley, only to reveal a secret enclave of an antique store, corner shop, and the tearoom. The square itself is fun to explore and great for photos. Once we sat down in the charming tearoom, we were greeted by a friendly and accommodating server. We ordered the afternoon tea. There was a perfect balance of sweet and savory with yummy finger sandwiches and delectable scones with clotted cream and jam. This is a lovely afternoon tea spot for all ages!

I had their house chai and their London fog, both of which were creamy and SO flavorful and served in the loveliest teapots. The finger sandwiches and cakes were also really good and I actually did leave full, as did my travel companions. The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel. The cost per person was reasonable in my opinion at £16 per person for a mini pot of tea and selection of sandwiches and tea cakes. We really enjoyed our experience there and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a lovely afternoon tea!

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.
