Communicated with the owner about renting their large space for a theater production 3/23-24/2018 ALMOST A YEAR IN ADVANCE. Established dates in advance. Was advised could seat 150 in advance. Verified rehearsal dates (on Sundays when location is closed & the week of the show) in advance.
The facility only had 45 seats, so we had to utilize & rent chairs.
Our actors had to rehearse in a hallway 2 times because the owner & manager double-booked us with a paint party. The 3rd time, the owner said we could use the coffee bar next door, but a 17-person cast cannot fit in Bons and effectively practice movement.
We were promised by the owner usage of sound equipment & piano (in advance). But, the week of the show, we discovered the keyboard belonged to the house band.
Multiple leaks from the ceiling presented potential slip / trip hazards. The owner promised to have a door installed for the service hall, but that was not the case, with a piece of lumber falling and almost striking our director on the head.
The owner made a certain % from door sales, but he was heard laughing & talking loudly at the bar with Artipsy's band members, distracting viewers from the play.
Lastly, with all of the communicating done well in advance, The owner appears to not be communicating with his manager at all. So, it made us look like procrastinators, asking about chairs, equipment, etc., only a few days before our planned nights.....
Before this play, I had plans of directing the entire Pittsburgh Cycle. Seeing the treatment of the Kast & Krewe immediately caused my striking of Artipsy as the "Home of LightHouse Ensemble".
