Artifacts is located in the Raley's Village center across from the Heavenly Village shops, off the main drag through South Lake Tahoe, a couple of blocks before the Casinos on the California side. From the Raley's parking lot, if you look opposite Raley's, you'll see the colorful wind devices rotating at the entry, which match the patina Wind Sculptures art installation near it Inside, this nicely decorated shop is a combination Artifacts, Gift, Jewelry, Art, Curio, Metaphysical shop, owned by Susan, the silver haired proprietor with her sweet poodle Tula, who may greet you at the door quietly, looking for a nice calm hand to pet her, and welcome you in. Susan has a sister store in the Carson Mall in Carson City, NV called Crimson Moon, which may be a little more New Age/Metaphysics focused. Metaphysical items are here, too, which got my attention, because she had 2 Tarot decks I own myself personally, for sale. The first is the Voyager Deck, by James Wanless, that I learned Tarot on 30 years ago. The other also visually stunning deck is the newer Starman Tarot, based on rock music legend David Bowie, and the art pieces created by his good friend and artist David de Angelis. If you are ever in South Lake Tahoe in the summertime, drop in and say hello to Susan and Tula. She retreats back to Georgia in the snow months, however, and she may retire soon, so hurry! read more

I came here on the recommendation of a friend. I was immediately greeted by the most friendly staff, Lisa and Elise. This gallery carries the most exquisite collection of art, jewelry (very nice opals), kaleidoscopes (handmade with pride), Kimono's, woven textiles, wooden boxes and just about any other eclectic work of handmade items an art lover like myself would appreciate. They had a Thanka (a painting on silk expertly framed locally) from Kathmandu that I couldn't live without. I can't remember if it was Lisa or Elise who took the time to thoroughly explain to me the significance of the Thanka. But she sold me on it without any pressure for me to buy. Lisa and Elise have a deep appreciation for all the items in the shop and were taking the time to explain to other customers what they were looking at. The Thanka cost a small fortune but it was money well spent and is a beautiful addition to my art collection. They have an excellent buyer with a good eye for detail and design. Don't let the prices scare you. You're bound to find something to fit your budget and you are purchasing quality items unlike any you've seen before. On a group ski/boarding trip to Tahoe we stumbled upon Artifacts on a day we took a day off from hitting the mountain. There were a lot of interesting items in the store from artifacts, fossils, rocks, jewelry, clothing & the most amazing kaleidoscopes I've ever seen. Horrible customer service . I've shopped at this store for years and on a few occasions found similar or the same items elsewhere significantly cheaper. If you have a concern or ask any questions they are typically rude or sarcastic. I will not be spending my time or money at this store again. read more

They have some neat products but, the same as any other store nearby. I am giving two stars because the customer service we received was unacceptable. The girl working had red hair, I did not get her name, but from the first question I asked she was rude. She spoke to us like we were dumb and had an attitude. All I asked was if they had the chakra stone sets in stock. I asked because someone had posted that they purchased a box set from this store. I will not come back to this store, you can find similar products in nearby stores. read more

I used to love this store. They had really neat wooden Kaleidoscopes with glass beads. So while my dad played with the Kaleidoscopes, I got to look around the store. Now that they are gone, I have no reason to go back because many of the stores have the same type of merchandise. So I won't be back, ad neither wil my family. read more

I was up at South Lake Tahoe a several hours ago at this upscale store and the lady (owner?) was really wonderful and showed me some of the super-cool kaleidoscopes. They were priced at around $240 and the images were so incredibly beautiful that I thought if I were to buy one I might do nothing but stare inside it until I eventually drop dead. If you're ever in the area, by all means stop in the place and check out all the beautiful things there, you won't be disappointed! P.S. If I'm still kicking and get the good-paying job I think I'll soon be getting, I will for sure buy one or two of those kaleidoscopes because they really are THAT amazing! read more

This store has so many treasures in glass, stone, gems and precious metals. I wish I could buy so many of the beautiful things here. Each time the owner is remarkably friendly and helpful; she helps us find something fun in just the right price range. Usually we're looking for a gift, and they have so many to choose from. We love this place! My husband bought me a beautiful amethyst pendant and earrings a couple of years ago. However when I tried to find a chain to put the pendant on we found that the shanks on the back were positioned so that the pendant tipped over. After about a year I finally remembered to bring the item with me when we went to Lake Tahoe and took it into Artifacts. They took the item back and sent it to the manufacturer (in Thailand). Although the process took some time, when I received the pendant they had attached a beautiful chain, and also included a simpler chain with some extra money to change the chain if we didn't like the fancy one. We were impressed with how they handled our concerns and I love wearing my jewelry from there. We always stop by to see what new and exciting things they have and are usually able to find something unique to buy. read more

Artifacts is my favorite shop in So. Lake Tahoe. We have been going there since they were located in Caesar's at Stateline. They have such wonderfully unique items and I never leave without buying a few things, often gifts. Elise is wonderful and fun to chat with. We were in South Lake Tahoe for the 4th of July. I was looking for something that would make a nice and different kind of gift when, we spotted Artifacts. The place is amazing. There were items made of glass, stone, metal, wood, fabric, paper and so on. Some of the stand outs to me were the face masks and kaleidoscopes. The kaleidoscope that impressed me most had fireworks inside it. Can you believe that? I kind of hope the person I got it for shows lack of interest in it, because I'd give them a $200 gift certificate to the Cheesecake Factory instead in a heartbeat. If you're looking for something different, with quality, and that could easily be past on as a family heirloom, Artifacts is heaven sent, and the owner is an angel. read more
