When I first arrived at Maxixe, I was warmly welcomed by Ele, the principal of the dance school. Ele recommended to us Maria Hirnich and Tania Dimitrova, both very highly accomplished competition dancers. I can only refer to their profiles online. Maria and Tania proved to be excellent teachers and the nicest coaches you can imagine. We loved every minute of our lessons with Tania and Maria and can only warmly recommend Maxixe, Maria and Tania for ballroom dancers looking to obtain some excellent tuition in these rather technical areas. For parents who have a busy schedule during the week are going to appreciate the fact that your child can go to ballet dance on a weekend. The school has instructors who are professional dancers and not only professional dancers but outstanding teachers. I can only review this school in regards to children classes. The school offers trial lessons and allows the parents to sit in the room for the first time coming to a class. This was especially great because our daughter is a bit shy and sensitive. The teacher Franziska was very nice, welcoming and treated our daughter very respectfully. When she noticed that our daughter was close to tears, the instructor did not make a fuss nor did she draw attention to her but instead guided her calmly on her side. I was amazed how well she interacted with the children. The class consisted of approx. 10 girls (at that time we were there) and takes place once a week for 60 minutes. The payments are paid monthly. The payments are lower than other classes in our neighborhood. The school has several dance studios, with mirrors and equipment used for ballet lessons. The girls wear the same outfits that must be purchased at a local store. All girls at the class were treated respectfully and kind by the teacher and really enjoyed the class. The location is a bit tricky. It is located on Kurfürstendamm in a shopping mall (Karree). On the entrance is a big house number 207/208. The school is on the second floor. Once you enter the building, the access to the elevators/school is on the right side. You will be able to find a business directory. From there, there are elevators that get you to the school. So it is a bit hidden. I recommend this school for little ballerinas and possibly even for adults who are interested in professional dancing.

Apparently I had at some point murmured something about quite fancying trying it out (she says). So it was initially with much trepidation and brave-face-putting that we first turned up there. And yes, I was won over. Completely. We did the Beginners Course, we returned for the Mid Level Course, and we're planning on doing the Advanced. And it's all been a blast. There are, inevitably, those moments at the beginning of each new course where the girlfriend glowers while you pretend that you do indeed remember perfectly the steps you learned in the last course, and that you're not trying surreptitiously to watch what the others are doing but are in fact just tying your shoelaces. (it doesn't help, by the way, because nearly all the men in the place are doing exactly the same as you, and nearly all the women are doing what your girlfriend is doing). But enough of that. Let me tell you more about the place itself. It is, I think, a quite well-established dance school, and has quite a good reputation. The decor has been done with great taste and subtlety - chic, very smart and yet utterly unpretentious. The teachers are all brilliant (with, I must say, one exception: also coincidentally by far the least camp one. Strange...); but the rest are highly professional, relaxed and very friendly. Through the summer they seem not to have fixed courses (I could be wrong on this) and we went instead (yes, it was my girlfriend's idea) to open Salsa classes: Great! You feel completely sexy! Who cares what you look like! They also hire the place out for weddings and suchlike, and they have Balls and Dances pretty much every week. We attended one and it was a great night out - all very chic and everyone dressed to the hilt, and performances by some of the teachers that looked absolutely wonderful. And really not very expensive. Also what you notice is that it is, I'm told, quite unnusual among most of the dance studios in Berlin in terms of its relaxed informality, and there's a preponderance of homosexual couples. Which I find makes for a very relaxed vibe. Also when the "men" and "women" split into two lines, they say instead the "leaders" and the "followers". And yes, a couple of times we got confused and ended with my girlfriend leading me around the floor. Until we realised. Ah well. Hardly anyone laughed. All in all, I thoroughly recommend it, whether you're a more serious dancer or just want to do a couple of casual classes, or you fancy simply turning up to one of the balls: Go!

That's exactly what happened to me and a couple of dozen other people. You don't have the option to sign up online though because it would require too much effort of Motions' staff. In a city where everyone is stripped for time it just shows an utter lack of respect to rob people of exactly that. Also to not even apologise to people who had planned their Friday night around a class but to let them wait in a queue to then tell them one by one that they can go home just shows absolutely zero consideration or manners. A waste of time, I'd recommend you look for a different studio.

I joined SoulFlight in August of this year, thinking to treat myself to an exotic and interesting…read moreform of dance. I signed up a few weeks before leaving on a trip to Canada for a month. At the time they were having a promotion for classes. Initially, I thought to buy three classes but since they would only be valid for 45 days, I opted instead for 5 classes which I could take over 3 months. 5 classes cost 110 euros, so roughly 20 euros per class. After arriving back from Canada, I did one class and it was fun. I thought to come and use the rest of my classes soon. However, as work caught up with me, I wasn't able to think about going to a class for another month. Then, as luck would have it, I injured myself and ended up in the hospital, barely able to move for the next two weeks. Finally, when I was better, I booked a class. This is where things took a downward spiral. I showed up for the class and, as I was about to change into my dancing clothes, they lady at the desk informed me that all my classes had expired the day prior. As a concession she mentioned that she would give me this class for free. Shocked, I said that I thought my classes were good until the end of the month. She confirmed that this was not true and that my three months we up. I told her that I was in Canada for a month and just in the hospital, and that I could bring these documents to prove my absence/inability to take classes. Instead, she decided to fight me tooth and nail. Could she not simply give me credits for the remaining four classes I missed, if I provided proof of absence? She said no, absolutely not, because they couldn't take my payment 'out of the system' (whatever that is supposed to mean) and that she would have to pay her programmer to come and change my account to retroactively grant me credits. Are they supposed to do that specially for me, she asserted? (Jeez, I mean why would you do that, I am only a CUSTOMER). Besides that, why would you want a system that is so inflexible that you can't change accounts yourself? That every time you need to make a change to an account you need to pay your programmer? Sounds both fishy and backward. She said that if I couldn't have come for lessons I should have phoned in and they could have paused my account. Funny, none of this is written anywhere on their website and no one said that to me before or after I bought the five classes, even though I told the person I purchased the classes from (which ironically, WAS HER) that I was leaving to go away for a month. So apparently this policy just appeared out of thin air while we were arguing. I also mentioned that it would have been nice to have an end of contract email to have been sent to remind me that my classes were almost up, considering I work 10 to 12 hours a day and have a home life as well and wondering when my pole dance classes are going to expire is the last thing on my mind. She said this email does in fact get sent, however I have yet to see an email like this in my inbox or spam folder so I suppose that policy magically appeared out of thin air as well. Even after telling her that this is incredibly bad customer service of her and that she would be losing me as a customer if she couldn't find a compromise, she wouldn't budge on the matter. So, in the end I ended up paying 110 euros for one pole dancing class. That is pretty fricking brutal. The worst part is, I wasn't asking for a reimbursement. I was just asking for credits to be able to take my classes and some leniency. Just as a reminder, this is not a huge multi-million dollar corporate gym or franchise, this is a small business with the owner working the counter. There is really no excuse for this kind of unforgiving behaviour and terrible customer service. Again, I would have accepted some sort of compromise, but none was even offered, aside for the one class that I was 'allowed' to take in that moment. This is Germany however, a place where customer service doesn't exist. Of the top of my head, I can think of two good customer service compromises: 1. To bring in my proof of absence and give me to the end of the month to finish the last three classes. 2. To bring in proof of absence and allow me to finish the last three classes provided that I can only join a class 15 minutes prior to it starting, to make sure I am not taking someone else's place. 3. Allow me to take two of the three remaining classes on a credit basis, following one of the two options mentioned above. Instead they lost a customer for life and gained a bad review. Enjoy the 110 euros.
