I've been shopping here for a couple of years now and am still thrilled with the store. The owner has been extremely helpful everytime I've gone in, either in helping to recommend a wine for a special occasion or just ordering a hard to find beer for me. They host wine, spirit and beer tastings on a regular basis for a nominal cost, and usually the profits go to a local charity. If you don't know much about wine they have gone above and beyond all expectations to help you find one to your tastes, and they have NEVER been wrong in assisting me. Impressive selection of high quality, unique craft beers. Mostly of the boutique, connoisseur variety. Although located in a strip mall, the place feels like you have stepped into a collector's cellar. Warm wood toned shelves and a quiet stillness inside make it feel like an enchanted alcohol library. It was awesome to see a fair number of elite beers even in the coolers so I could have one right when I got home. In addition to some of the best selections from American micro breweries, I found numerous gems from Belgium, France, Italy, and Germany. I was asked if I had any questions within a few minutes of arriving. I was tempted to ask how this place was located in Rockford, IL. I've been here 100+ times and always get the best knowledge service you could ask for. I called Artale for kegs for my wedding, and dealt with Aaron, their beer guy. Aaron was a complete delight to work with, very great communicator, and very helpful. He got me pricing info right away, and the ordering process was very laid back (almost too laid back to where I was worried the kegs didn't get ordered!). After the wedding, the return process was seamless, and we had one leftover, untapped keg. I wish I could return it, but for quality purposes cannot, but Aaron and the Artale staff offered to let me store the keg in their cooler so I can use it at a later date. This is going above and beyond to earn customers. Pricing at Artale was more affordable than any other place I had called or visited too. On other instances, I have gone to Artale and have always been recommended superb beer, wine, and spirits. The staff at Artale are great at asking what you normally like and recommending other drinks you might like based on your previous experiences. I will be an Artale customer for life! read more

I don't often drunk wine, but when I do, I go here. They have an ok selection that is reasonably priced. It's an intimate store with great recommendations by the workers. Best place to buy wine. They offer a wide selection, and will place special orders if they can. We recently returned form wine tastings in Cali., only to find that Artale had the Justin Vineyard Isosceles from Paso Robles. We just toured and tasted at this vineyard days before, and couldn't believe we found it in Rockford. We were amazed, and have made this place our staple for wine purchases ever since. If you're having trouble finding great wine, Craft beer, or top shelf spirits look no further! Not to mention the family run, extremely knowledgeable staff that has never steered me in the wrong direction! Their Cicerone is so incredibly in-tune to the craft beer industry you will find yourself picking his brain to learn more and more about the beers and spirits they offer. Went here with my girlfriend looking for a good bottle of wine, we were dressed as average 24 year old people do. After walking in we could tell they just finished a wine tasting and were cleaning up. After walking around aimlessly for 10 minutes someone finally approached us to help. Here is the kicker!!! He didn't even work there!!! So now after finding our bottle of wine we check out with an older gentlemen "assuming its the owner". He did not ask if we found everything nor give eye contact... I'm not much of a wine guy myself, but I am most definitely a beer guy. As far as I'm concerned Artale Wine Co. is hands down the best place in Rockford to purchase craft beer. There are two main reasons they are the best: 1. The selection. Their craft beer selection is phenomenal. Not only do they carry the best american craft beers (that are distributed to the Rockford area), they also have the best imports selection. You can tell that they go out of their way to get the best stuff. They have a lot of beers that are hard to find such as those from Pipeworks Brewing in Chicago. Artale is the only store in Rockford that carries their beers because they are willing to personally drive to the brewery in Chicago every week to get their order. That's pretty awesome. They also have a constantly changing vintage shelf. 2. The service. The guys here know their stuff without coming off like snobs, a very rare occurrence these days. They always suggest great beers to me and they are never afraid to tell me if they think something isn't good. I have a lot of respect for their opinions and they have never steered me wrong. I enjoy chatting with them about beer almost as much as I enjoy drinking beer. That's saying a lot. If you have even a remote interest in craft beer, you should check out one of their tasting events. Not only do you get to talk about beer, you get to drink it too. For me, it doesn't get much better than that. Oh, and they are very reasonably priced and never try to overcharge for highly sought after beers unlike SOME specialty liquor stores that I won't name in this review. If you're a beer geek in the Rockford area, I didn't tell you anything you didn't already know. You probably go there as often as I do (once, or sometimes twice a week). But if you're just getting into craft beer or you're a beer geek visiting Rockford, I can't recommend this place enough. They have made me a very loyal customer and I can't see that changing any time soon. read more

The name is misleading as they not only have a great wine selection, but excellent craft beers as well. This is a father and son operation-- while both have an arcane knowledege of wine, Anthony (the son, Tony is the father), is the beer expert; and as one reviewer mentioned that they have never been steered wrong with their wine recommendations, the same holds true on the beer recommendations from Anthony that I have recieved. read more
