The summer camp has about 25 kids with 3 instructors and 3 assistants, so there are plenty of people watching the children learn and train. My daughter attends another Flip! on ARR during the school year, but this location seems to be bigger. Overall, very happy with the camp and this location. Camp lasts from 9am - 4pm, and she was all talkative about her day and all the fun things that she did with her instructors.

Pleasant location right off Coleman down from Shem Creek with plenty of parking in the strip mall it is located in. It made it easy to drop off our kid and be on our way and to pick her up as well. Inside of the Play Garden they have all sorts of cool things for the kiddies to do; from playing on slides, playing with toys, to crafts such as painting. The staff here is awesome. They were very nice and I salute them for their patience with 50 screaming kids running around. We look forward to using Play Garden again soon when we need that last minute sitter.

When I walked in, my immature mind immediately thought, wow, plenty of young attractive females, an interesting environment and I get to help them with all their various activities. Boy was I in for one of the most delightful awakenings ever. The staff are all professional, as they have a serious job they have chosen. Working for a charity that deals with such a serious matter as cancer, it takes a certain strong-willed individual and mindset. Don't get me wrong they're jovial but their focus is on the kids which, commendable is the only word I can think of yet if falls woefully short of the respect they deserve. I absolutely loved helping them out and after my 20 hours were up, I stayed for another 2 years. I volunteered at "The Taste of Charleston", oyster festivals at Boone Hall, golf tournaments, outings, and of course, their camp. The work they need help with is diverse and as far as I know all the proceeds go the foundation and children along with families in need. If you decide to assist, know the children are beautiful and strong as are their families. As a personal aside I grew close with one of the families, becoming a "big brother" to one of the children. We had a grand time and I considered him family. Well, no one prepared me for the difficulties of what the charity deals with, cancer. I walked in one Saturday to hang out with my 8 yr old buddy and a faculty member informed me, he had passed. I took what felt like an eternity to process the information then went to the bathroom and got sick. It stung that bad. The following Tues I told the director I couldn't do this again, I'm not strong enough to deal with the realization of the evil that is cancer. She said she understood and thanked me for everything. I can't say how much mental fortitude the staff possess. How difficult it is to be on the cusp of death daily, not only that, but interacting with the most innocent of souls, children. I still pray for them all, that they get the strength to continue doing their good work. I no longer live in Charleston but I highly suggest tithing, or giving your time and/or resources to this charity if you can. The staff would appreciate it and the families would be eternally grateful. Moreover, you'll be helping children who could really use help and deserve anything we can assist with. Happy Days and special times is one of the most noble charities I've ever been associated with and I know if you get in touch with them, your life will be forever touched in the most human and enlightening ways ever. It's really not fair to have to give a review to this incredible organization but as a cancer…read moresurvivor myself and having seen so many children at the hospitals I went to its impossible to not comment on this organization. Normally they have a camp every summer for kids but unfortunately this year that is not possible due to the coronavirus. So instead of postponing this years camp they decided to run it virtually. In order to accomplish that they needed to supply each child with a box of items for the activities that the kids would be partaking of during the virtual camp week. We answered an ad to volunteer packing the boxes and went this past Saturday. There were approximately 200 volunteers ready to get to work packing almost 400 boxes for the kids. In order to start it was required to count out a large amount of donated items by age groups. It was time consuming yet so incredibly rewarding. We met volunteers like us in their first year and counselors and volunteers who have been involved in Camp Happy Days for 30 years. What amazing people. Considering how things are today in the U.S. it is so satisfying to know that organizations like this exist and the incredible people who are involved all for the benefit of these kids with cancer.
