Tried the waltzing class at the Glen Echo Park complex and loved it. Tony Treston (affiliated with…read moreWaltz Time) was my instructor; he demonstrates the basics of waltzing in an easygoing manner. My first lesson was no pressure and I felt like I made a lot of progress. BTW, this is not Viennesse waltzing, which is a formalized style of waltzing. The kind of waltzing taught here is more of a "garden variety", and done by cultures all over the world. It's a 3-step candance (slow, quick quick), and anyone can do it, seriously. It might be the best $13 that I ever spent. That's the cost of admission, which includes a 45 minute lesson, followed by nearly 3 hours of dance time with a live band. The Spanish Ballroom, where the social dances are held, is a premier venue. The building itself is Art Deco architecture and considered to be one of the best ballrooms of its kind on the East Coast. The interior is decorated tastefully and lighted well. The expansive floor is made of a lovely maple wood. The live music is such a treat as the acoustics here are top notch. The social dances are a lot of fun, and waltzing isn't the only style offered--there's contra dancing; tango dancing; swing dancing; blues dancing, etc. The social dance calendar is quite extensive. Check out Glen Echo Park and Waltz Time websites to see all the possibilities. Am already planning when I'll attend again.

My negative review comes from the school itself. It's located in an office building and the basement studios are pretty uninspiring. My daughter sat in a piano room on an old office chair for her lesson while the the teacher sat across on the piano bench. The rooms are cluttered and really didn't spark interest in music for my young child. The other negative is the cancellation policy. It's 24 hours which is reasonable, but that includes sickness. I didn't know my daughter was going to be sick 24 hours in advance and when I called first thing that morning to cancel her lesson that afternoon, I left a voicemail. Unfortunately, I got a call at the time of her appointment and that's when they checked the messages so we got dinged and lost the lesson. If I had the teacher's direct phone, I could have called him yesterday and cancelled the lesson with no penalty, but I didn't have that information. Once they upgrade their facility and their administrative systems and policies, I'm sure it could be a very nice music school.

Very slow responses, maybe with the exception of getting new customers to sign up. We had verbal agreement on the pricing schedule, but by the time I terminated the classes Michael changed the tuition calculation method and charged extra on my credit card without my agreement. Most surprisingly, when we argued about this matter and the customer service, he said "I'm a small business so I don't have customer experience. I simply don't use this metric". Wow that speaks volume!!! If you have to sign up for this school like you have not other options, please make sure to put all the terms on paper and don't trust verbal agreement with him! Cuz you may be surprised and don't expect an explanation until the class termination!

"Mama, why do they have stay at home days?", my son, a kindergartner at the WWS asked me. In his…read moreopinion, eliminating stay at home days is the only improvement his school needs. I could not agree more, but I'd still have stay at home days for my own selfish reasons. Here is a sample conversation at the end of a typical day: Me: What did you do today? My son: Played, played, and played. Me: What did you learn today? My son: Nothing. But I love my teacher so much. Me: Why do you love your teacher so? My son: She rakes with me. For you folks who are unfamiliar with Waldorf schools, ask to check out books on Waldorf pedagogy at the school library, turn off the TV, and buy your kid a leaf rake next time he asks for a new toy. For my savvy readers, WWS is a fantastic community of likeminded individuals who will make your kid's childhood and adolescent years an epic experience of play, work, love and passion. Stay at home days are overrated anyway: school days are so much cooler! Cheers!

The educational experience offered by WWS has nurtured all aspects of our daughter's life and personality. The emphasis that WWS places on skills beyond basic reading, writing and arithmetic has been critical to her growth as a person and increased confidence in herself and abilities (both mental and physical). The basic curriculum is certainly taught - and taught well - but the use of movement, arts and crafts, music, and outdoor activities to teach and enrich has made all the difference. WWS's guiding principle is the education of the whole person; as our daughter experiences the highs and lows of life, we feel this will serve her well. We are excited to watch our daughter's progress as she continues her education at WWS.
