The art ranged from really cool, intricate, and elaborate to really, are you kidding, that much for that? I appreciate the amount of art there was and the time that some of the artists obviously spent versus say arranging three Coca-Cola glass bottles on a ledge with different amounts of liquid and selling it for $40K. Food and beverages are overpriced and you might as well just eat at the five thousand options just outside. I'm unlikely to return, and I'm glad I was able to go once.

In the earlier years of Miami's Art Basel, finding special stand-out exhibitions was relatively simple and exciting; especially pop-ups throughout Wynwood... these exhibitions (and Wynwood on the regular) were impressive. While Art Basel in Wynwood used to be a social gathering of artists and art lovers that would admire the murals that made Wynwood what it is and popup galleries that would showcase local and visiting art (typically more hip and trendy than the classics and modern art shown in Miami Beach's Art Basel shows/events). Wynwood (and Art Basel in Wynwood) once supported artistic creativity but today, it's sadly home to an elevated clusterfuck of crap. Today, the walls are covered with tags and graffiti and too many murals are not showcasing great talent; too many wanna be artists that lack the skills. Live music and sponsored events from various liquor companies have taken over... and too many sidewalk vendors selling junk. There are plenty of Art Basel events that still offer art lovers a taste of real art like those in the Convention Center and related but the rest is just a waste.

One of the best art experiences & definitely something on the bucket list that I've been meaning to check off! I would recommend breaking up your visit if possible because there is A LOT to see. Wear comfy shoes & expect to spend a few hours here - but trust me, it'll be worth the visit (& achy feet)!

So the hype is real. Went tonight or VIP entry and it was worth the 2 hour traffic Loved the visual arts (more like costumed rave dancers) but so much fun! Nice atmosphere. Music and cool people to look at The art was great. First stop was the aqua hotel on Collins. My favorite was the blown glass pieces especially the custom glass and metal chandelier wow! Drinks, music and art! Can't get any better on any day much less on a Wednesday!! Go and enjoy Miami at its finest

I had the opportunity to visit the Art Basel in Miami with my high school back in 2018. This was my first time hearing about this art gallery and I was very excited to visit. Before we made our way to the Art Basel, we visited the walls of Wynwood to compare art styles. Upon entry to the art basel, the area was huge and filled with people in every corner. There wasn't much room to move as freely as other art galleries, but it's understandable as this place is internationally known. This small concern didn't affect my overall experience as I had a great time. There were many rooms to walk through, interactive art, thought-provoking art, etc. Each art told a different story and it was fun to dissect what we believe the artists want us to know. One cool thing that my group was able to do was compare the art styles from what we saw earlier at Wynwood Walls to Art Basel. Wynwood art felt more free and expressive than art here as there weren't a lot of restrictions for Wynwood artists. I wished there were more explanations for some art pieces to get more direction for everyone's thought process. I'm not sure what the theme was for selecting certain art pieces, but I liked the inclusion of urban art and pop culture. There were also many "Instagram-worthy" art pieces to take pictures with and feel very aesthetic. I would recommend the Art Basel to everyone to experience at least once in their life! This was a fun day activity to do especially with a group as you guys get to share your thoughts and feelings. The location of the Art Basel is perfect because afterward or before, you can explore the city and eat at restaurants nearby. For my school's group ending, we were able to explore the city a bit and head to the beach for a nice view and bonding time. I can't wait until Art Basel comes around this year to try and go again! If you are doubting about visiting, I say to do it! You will be satisfied with your time there.

Lots of modern art. I went to Art Basel 3-4 years ago and liked that show better. One new trend that was cool to see was

The outpost of the Art Basel art fair in America, this is a big time event every December in Miami Beach Convention Center. It's probably the most important art fair in the western hemisphere and well worth the price of admission. BTW the fair is also great for people-watching. Every two minutes, some Palm Beach matron wearing a Lady Gaga-esque (but Chanel) outfit strolls past with "art consultants" in tow and her checkbook out, pen in hand. Fair warning: you'll see some pretentious nonsense. However, most of the fair is museum-quality. The big difference is these artworks are for sale and you can get within a fraction of an inch looking. The galleries and dealers that show are carefully curated, so you won't find vanity galleries, or any true wastes of time. The fair this year included, by my count, at least 20 Andy Warhol originals and prints, with a smattering of Jackson Pollock, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keefe, you name it. These sorts of modern masterpieces don't come cheap. Bring that black Amex with the one with no credit limit. LOL, but sell the art before the bill comes due for a profit. One real drawback to Art Basel Miami are the beach and city gridlocked traffic. Take Metrorail and Metromover any time you can, and Uber/Lyft otherwise. One transport hint: always opt for shared rides, as there are enormous numbers of people going to the same places. Another real drawback is the bizarrely hostile behavior of some exhibitors. For the exhibitors, just laugh and move on if the booth is manned by "galleristas" (typically 25 or so, wearing all black and an attitude, looking potential buyers up and down and then turning the other way silently). Art Basel Miami is definitely a unique experience. One way to score free tickets and side party invites is to focus intensely on one gallery or two, and express interest strongly (hehe).

I can't wait to go back. It was beautiful. So many art parties and events associated with Art Basel. It felt a little like being in Willy Wonka's Wonderland..

I've been told 2016 was much calmer than in previous years, perhaps due to the Zika scare. Nonetheless, I had a blast at my first Art Basel experience in Miami Beach. They offer discounted tickets to students and seniors, at a little over $30. 1 day should be enough to experience everything in the convention center, as long as you start around the time it opens. It was super crowded, with people slowing down to take pictures in front of the artworks, and strollers zigzagging throughout the aisles, but it wasn't unbearable. Even though Art Basel is essentially a trade show, it's like going to see a gigantic collection of the most provocative and unique pieces from galleries all over the world, all under one roof. Of course, one of the best parts of Art Basel are the after parties and festivities! In a nutshell, Art Basel is definitely something everyone should have on their bucket list. Can't wait to attend Art Basel in Switzerland someday!

I kind of expected to see this at an anti-Obama rally, or on Fox News or a KKK rally. I didn't expect to see this at Art Basel.

"What a crock of crap! They call Art Basel a Mecca art event? It was more like watching "Gone with the Wind" replaced with actors from that show "Good Times" ! Within the first 30 minute's of this so-called premier art show, I felt like I was on a date with Whoopi Goldberg, horrifying! I should have read the reviews because J.M was totally correct in his/her assessment -"The rest was just sheer exhaustion and utter chaos. It's a trade show...nothing more." Art Basel is a seen and be seen type of event. If you're an art & artifact lover like myself, you will find no intimacy here. I was surrounded by thousands of amateur paparazzi gunning camera phones like wild west outlaws rather than appreciating the " art " at hand. I felt like I was watching speed dating between neophyte's and painted canvasses. But there were a few bright spots in this little adventure as I was able to study and appreciate about 3 pieces of art and photography. There was this one photo of Scarlett Johansson that stirred my inner passion's, as she was in the most intimate and alluring pose centered within a sultry penumbra. Maybe 5% of the art was worth glossing over and studying. The rest I could only conclude were the creations of the emotionally disturbed and mentally ill. What happened to the Michael Angelo's of the world? I still cannot believe I spent $45 to look at a bunch of crap on a stick, row after row after row. Luckily I didn't have to fork over the $20 to $30 local parking facilities were charging, as I found local metered parking only walking distance away from the convention center.

Geez, I don't want to be the party pooper, but the Convention Center exhibit was really weak. So much so that I had to revisit some of the galleries in the Design District right after to revive my love of art. Don't get me wrong, there were some very interesting pieces here, but I have to say a good 75% was outright ridiculous. I went as far as taking pictures of the worst art just to post them up and be like, "Come ON!" A floating black balloon? Pieces of blank paper tacked to the wall? A table with coins on it? You can check them out under this listing's photos and decide for yourself... Anywho, I do really appreciate and love Art Basel in Miami. It's one of the absolute BEST times of the year. While this isn't a great review for the Miami Beach Convention Center exhibits, I will gladly give a million stars to some of the smaller galleries Downtown. These include Vanguard, Scope, and Art Asia. These galleries were not only free, but featured some of the most amazing art I have ever seen. It's almost shocking that they charge $75+ dollars for a two-day ticket to see some really mediocre yet really expensive stuff. I mean, you can really go through the whole thing in just one day anyway. Your feet will likely kill you, but it's not impossible. I did see Lenny Kravitz wandering around with some Nicole Kidman-esque woman. He must have a thing for blondes. Anywho - that made it somewhat worthwhile at least. In conclusion, HOORAY BASEL, boo convention center art.

Happy 10 years Art Basel Miami Beach! This monster of an art fair has been coming to Miami since 2002. It was originally slated to begin in 2001, but due to September 11 events, it was postponed one year. Each year Art Basel and thus the surrounding art fairs get bigger and bigger. More and more people are aware of them and it gets more and more crowded. So, my one big tip, if you are planning to attend in coming years, is to plan ahead. Look online and get the info and whereabouts of things you want to see before stumbling into the convention center or traipsing throughout the city. Otherwise, it's just too daunting. A bunch of people usually post guides online listing some good things to see, addresses, hours, etc. The best part of Art Basel proper (meaning Art Basel-sponsored events) was Art Video. I thought the selection of videos this year was excellent. I even went back a second day to try to watch the ones I missed. I also went to one night of the projection of Art Video at the New World Center. Great use of the building and city space for the fairs. I also highly recommend the Studio Visits that are part of the Art Basel related programming. Each year artists in different areas open up their studios to visitors on different days. I went to Maria Martinez-Canas's studio as well as Carlos Betancourt's. What a better way to get to know local artist and their work than chatting with them in their studios. Plus, I love getting to know how other artists work - what materials they use, what books their reading, etc. Overall, Art Basel was excellent this year and I look forward to the years to come. I hope you'll want to call Miami Beach home for a least a little while longer.

The chef lineup looked incredible, and after having an amazing experience at Burger Bash (with early admission), we were genuinely excited. Unfortunately, this event was the complete opposite. Not only was it more expensive, but it was extremely overcrowded. It was shoulder-to-shoulder the entire time, making it difficult to move, enjoy the atmosphere, or even hear anyone speak. The lines were unbelievably long, and it was nearly impossible to tell where they began or ended -- only to finally reach the front and receive a very small bite of food. There also needs to be serious consideration around sound and entertainment. The event had both a DJ and a live band, and it was way too loud -- you could barely have a conversation. The band, unfortunately, wasn't great and felt overpowering and obnoxious at times. The DJ was much better and played far better music; the overall vibe would have been much more enjoyable sticking with just that. There really needs to be a ticket capacity limit to ensure guest satisfaction. Overselling the event completely took away from what could have been an incredible experience. The organization and overall flow just weren't there. After 45 minutes of frustration and barely tasting anything, we decided to leave and went to Pizza Bar around the corner just to actually get something to eat. The only highlight of the night was spotting Rev Run walking in -- which ended up being the most memorable part of the experience. Burger Bash truly felt like the main event in comparison. We won't be returning to this one. Burger Bash from now on.

Rusty Pelican won the big award. Their dish was tasty. It was ribeye and shrimp I believe. (No sign describing the dish on table) I wanted to try the lobster salad from Catch and Cut but they were about to go on stage for the competition when I went by twice. Other restaurants were just ok. I enjoyed the Hendrick's gin drinks. Blacklane had a nice lounge with champagne. All in all, this event is nice because it is food, drinks and music on the beach at night. It was a nice, breezy evening, so that made it even nicer. But if I break it down on most of the food food and even most of the drinks, it is just ok. I expected real high quality seafood and it just didn't cut it for me. I attended the very first one of these parades a decade ago, and have been to I believe every one since! This year was bigger and better than ever! The parade itself was longer, lasting about 1 1/2 hours, they actually paced the parade along very well this year, avoiding the up to 5 minute gaps a few times per parade that have plagued it in years' past, and the expo and performance stages on the beach were better than I remember them being as well. The crowds have definitely grown, from an estimated 50,000 attendees when this Pride festival was just getting started, to an estimated 135,000 this year. The 2018 grand marshal was Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy. He made headlines a few months ago by sharing a kiss with his partner on worldwide TV following one of his Olympic runs..And his family/friends could usually be spotted at the bottom of the mountain waving rainbow flags and cheering him on. He was lots of fun, made a speech at the main stage after the parade, took a selfie with the crowd and body surfed through the crowd of people, all while shooting video for social media. While this event is definitely 5 star worthy and I'm sure it's a monumental task to execute with lots of people and an incredible amount of organization and planning to bring it all together, I'd have 3 suggestions on improvements: 1) Consider moving it back to Saturday. The first parade I attended was on a Saturday afternoon and it was great! People could stick around all day, go to Twist and Palace until late that night and take Sunday to recover. At some point, the parade was moved to Sunday; from what I understand it was done to attract more families to attend. In my experience, it actually cuts back on the fun! People who are out late on Saturday night don't feel like getting up and being in place along Ocean Drive in the hot sun at high noon for a parade. Likewise, people tend to curtail their activities on Sunday since many need to be at work on Monday AM. 2) Make the "expo area" on the beach larger and more spread out to accommodate the crowds. Seriously, this year, especially after the parade first ended, it was madness for the first hour to simply try and make your way from the stage at one far end to the other. 3) Set up both stages exactly the same. The main stage had a large sun shade over the crowd, large, inflated decorations above the audience's heads, beach balls being bounced throughout the crowd, and pretty spectacular lighting and video shows with other effects going well into the night. Meanwhile at the other stage where mostly Latin bars/clubs were represented and Latin groups performing, there was no sun shade, just a few lights, no video wall with graphics, no smoke system, etc. It kind of felt like one stage was over the top and the planners of this event went all out for it, while the other stage where the Latin crowd was relegated to was treated like the low budget step child. That said, the attendees at both were equally energetic and the place was still full when they finally shut down that night.
