Lovely, quiet place in basically a tiny village in the middle of nowhere.
Mum talked to the person at the art gallery who told her a little slice of history about the place:
A few years ago the building was due to be demolished due to age. The community held a meeting and they all voted that they wanted something nice - an art gallery, cafe and little food store. So the community banded together and built the whole place together.
The art gallery exhibits (and sells of course) local work as well as has a roster of community members.
We arrived at 9.55am keen on coffee and some breakfast. It opens at 10.
It DID open at ten but it had obviously been just opened, nothing was written on the blackboard and when I looked for a menu there weren't any. The owner just stared dully at me and sniffed whilst walking on to the kitchen and doing her stuff when I smiled and greeted her with a 'Hello.'
The others commented that she was rather abrupt too so it wasn't just me. She didn't even bother to come over and explain the no menu or ask for coffee orders.
If you own a hospitality venue and are over it, I suggest you sell and move on. Food and coffee requires love and passion. After all, it's only the stuff that we MUST do every day to stay alive...!
Anyway, we ordered four coffees Abd my latte was surprisingly good, mellow and smooth with zero bitterness even in the first sip.
David ordered the fritters with feta, avocado and tomato, Miriam ordered just avocado on bread while I decided on the scrambled eggs, bacon and swapped tomato for avocado (I dislike tomatoes) - it wasn't exactly like we had a choice, those two dishes were the whole menu!
Food was really nice, for me the scrambled eggs were just a bit too rich, less cream and butter would have made it just right. The avocado, as David remarked, were heavenly and I agree. A good avocado is cause for a celebratory dance of victory.
The frosty woman seemed to thaw slightly as we paid the exorbitant price of $54 for that.
I want to point out that Miriam's meal was HALF AN AVOCADO ON ONE THIN SLICE OF SOURDOUGH FOR $10.90. That is just, excuse my English, bullshit.
Superb view, lovely location, beautiful building and quite good food but service, service, service. And for God's sake, lower the damn price. In a place that dependent on tourism to inject the dollars, you will die from lack of word being spread and recommendations unless you wake up.
Not recommended unless you are staying in the area and just need a coffee fix. 3/5 only really because of the interesting art, view and coffee. If I was rating the cafe alone, 2/5. read more
