I have been to a few of the events: one was the Central Neighborhood front porch concerts and treats- it was fun. The other event was as a volunteer (full disclosure) for their plein air paint out as part of Paint Grand Traverse. Oh, I think everyone should volunteer for this, but that's my love of the arts speaking. As more of a dreamer than a do-er, I'm pretty much in awe of those who *do.* Lastly, this evening I was here for the TC Ticker's 'Recess' event. I'd consider going to another of their events, the venues rotate. There were beverage tickets (imbibe if you don't have to work later, as I did) and yummy treats from Maxbauer's and Raduno. I guess I networked, but I consider it more a polishing/fine-tuning of extremely rusty social skills. I am a busy and introverted human, therefore I don't get out much, lol. But, when I do get out, it's because I have high expectations. And, this venue and event both proved themselves to be enjoyable.

All these great things are reasons why I hope they see this long-winded review, because I would love to be able to enjoy shopping here again. As it is now in fall 2026, I can't pay these prices! Over the past year or so, they have increased prices to a laughable degree. They mark up all clothing and shoes with mid-level brand names (Eddie Bauer, WHBM, Talbots, Prana, etc.), or crappy brands that are new with tags (Basic Editions, H&M). It doesn't matter how dated or damaged the items are. Obviously they have someone in the back whose job is to look this stuff up online and then price it the same waY--seemingly unaware of the fact that online sellers: PAY for the item in the first place; pay listing fees, sales fees, transaction fees; have to cover preparation, storage, and shipping time & supplies. They also pay income tax on those sales. This is all baked into the price online. I'm not sure what logic is at work in this store's pricing strategy. If they are trying to discourage resellers, it's working--and they're losing a lot of business because of that. Regular people do not go to a thrift store expecting boutique or consignment pricing. Price these donated goods to actually sell, and keep cash flowing in! There are things that have been on the rack for months. The stock is stagnant because of the prices. I lost it today after seeing used shoes for $75 and a pilled polyester fall coat for $40. I want to love this place, but I'm done until they get more realistic about pricing.

I have two children at CDCC. Both started part-time as infants, then 5 days a week as they got…read moreolder. There's a reason this place has been in operation over 40 years and almost entirely by word of mouth recommendations. It's run very well. The standards and expectations of the staff are high. When I look at what my kids have learned at a very young age at CDCC as compared to kids we know in home daycare, it blows them away. In the rare cases where I've had concerns or questions, they were addressed immediately and professionally. The teachers are warm and caring and my kids get lots of hugs and TLC. My husband's work schedule and mine are never the same from day to day, and the flexibility we have with CDCC makes it possible. When I've gone back and forth between 3-5 days, they've always made it work. I don't need to notify them if my kids are coming in earlier than usual. And I can't remember once when they've closed for snow, even when all the schools are closed. Somebody makes it in to make sure they're there for the families. What makes it a full 5 stars is even being the best in town, it's actually a good value compared to some other centers. Central is a nonprofit. Now the Center is having to move out of its downtown location, and we will very likely be following them, even with a further drive, so my younger child can continue to get the benefits her brother got attending CDCC. They have families who drive from as far as Elk Rapids so their kids can attend this program. Obviously I can't recommend them enough.
