The NH Historical Society Museum is a very good museum that is packed with a variety of state…read morehistorical treasures. Admission is a very reasonable $7.00 per adult. There are exhibits on several floors and visitors get to prowl around on their own as they checkout the stuff. In one end of the Museum is a research library that is chock full of original NH documents, books, records, letters and so forth - all available to the public. The library staff are extremely friendly and helpful. All in all this is a very worthwhile stop! A WORD OF WARNING: the Museum sits close to the State House and if our legislators happen to be at "work" they sure make it hard to find a parking space!

A bit of everything and even the special exhibit was quite interesting on America's Kitchens. I especially loved the kiddy section where you can pretend that you are in a old country store shopping. There is also a cool observatory deck to teach you about forest fires, etc. Volunteers were great and explained about rural life back in the days on the first floor. Afterwards, you can visit downtown Concord with some nice quaint stores. Plus, the state capitol is just across the street. We just had bagel sandwiches for lunch down the street at the Works Bakery Cafe. I tried a honey bear smoothie which was especially good. Then, you can stop by the LL Bean factory store not too far away.

If you're a fan of FLW, you definitely need to do the tour from the Currier Museum where you can…read morenow visit both the Zimmerman House and this one, a more recent addition to their collection. It could hardly be more different from the Zimmerman, being built mostly from pre-cast concrete bricks. It's one of Wright's 'Usonian Automatic' homes; this means that he sent you the plans and measurements and you had to build it yourself after casting all the concrete bricks yourself from a variety of moulds. Not an easy task even for the most dedicated home builder, and not surprising that only seven of them were ever built. Much of the original furniture is no longer present, but it still has the original kitchen and stove/oven. The long bench seat under the windows has been partially restored and the Currier have been adding other bits of furniture that you can actually sit on while you listen to the docent's talk. It's unmistakably a Wright house, but with all the concrete blocks and glass it felt rather cold and industrial. I don't think I would have liked to live in it, unlike the Zimmerman house just along the road. Book the tour from the Currier Museum of Art, it's well worth it to see both of these Wright creations.

Wild Salamander adds a refreshing community center to our town where families can come together in a fun and inviting environment. The owners care deeply about art, community, and education; it's great to see the area support a business like this! I only wish it was here when I was young. I've been enjoying my class on pastels, and am looking forward to more classes in the future for me and my family. The teachers too are true professionals in the area equally devoted to sharing their passions. Also! I had not realized this until going: there is a small shop with local arts and crafts that's open to the public during the day. They have unique and thoughtful gifts for Christmas, birthdays, and other events. It is not a huge place where you walk half a mile in between sculptures, it is a pleasant path of regularly-occurring creative elements to observe and appreciate. Look up, down, and all around so you don't miss the many sculptures made from reclaimed salvage. Barbells, band saws, cymbals, farm implements -- all welded together in artistic ways that guide you along the path. Meanwhile, flora and fauna of unique varieties abound. Benches and chairs here and there. We strolled along and spent about 90 minutes doing the loop on the grounds. So much to see, so many deep breaths to take, plenty of picnic spots.
