After years of physical therapy, massages and everything else today I had the pleasure of getting…read morethe greatest massage ever from Richard. I've had massages but this massage was on a next level. He know what he's doing and knew exactly what my body needed. I came in with an extremely sore upper back and am leaving 50% better. This has been a stubborn sore that's lasted 1.5 week I am thrilled I get to leave feeling like weight has been taken off my back. I will definitely be back. Thank you Richard and Red Maple Massage!

DO NOT BOOK HERE FOR A PRENATAL MASSAGE…read more I left a message on my booking notes saying I needed a prenatal massage specialist as I'm 7 months pregnant, and to please confirm this would be possible. I received a call from Richard, the RMT who explained they have a prenatal massage table with a hole in it. I'm thinking, this is so great, I haven't been able to lie on my belly for 7 months. When I arrived for the massage, the questionnaire I filled out didn't have any pregnancy related questions. I was asked to get on the table and insert my belly into a 8 inch or so tall firm foam pillow with a hole cut out of it and a tight sheet draped over top. This was not a prenatal massage table, but rather a cheaper alternative. So I try to get into a comfortable position without any instructions, and place my belly hanging into this pillow/hole and my head and neck are way down still at the normal table level. I'm basically on my hands and knees or else I'm putting my whole weight onto this pregnancy pillow. The sheet is making the hole smaller and tighter since it doesn't stretch once I put my weight on it. It seemed fine at first, so I let the RMT know I was ready to begin the massage. Not even 5 minutes into the massage I'm feeling my lower abdomen start to cramp, I realize this hole isn't big enough or maybe I just need to reposition myself because I have a sharp foam corner cutting into my uterus clearly cutting off space for my baby to move around in there. I can feel the restricted kicks. So I try to reposition myself to make sure my belly is in the right spot, thinking I must be doing something wrong here. The only other positon I could fit on this foam platform in is to hang my boobs half off the sharp edge where the pillow ends. That was quite painful as well, but at least my baby is safer I'm thinking. I'm still not comfortable at all, but trying to be polite and I SO need this massage for my back. Time keeps passing and every 5 minutes feels like forever because of how uncomfortable I am. The sheet is so tight I can feel my belly is very squished. It's also 40 degrees Celsius in this room so I had to ask for more AC or a fan to be turned on. I finally tell Richard after 5 or 6 times readjusting and saying I'm not comfortable and him not taking a hint or asking how he can help that I don't think I fit in this hole. Instead of asking me what he can do to make my experience better, he asks if I'm having twins and tells me he's almost done. This would have been a perfect opportunity for him to worry about what the hole being too small could mean for the safety of my child. Instead, he prefers to rush through the end of the massage. I assume this means we're almost done since I'm not keeping track of time, but he continues to work on my back applying more pressure to a very sore belly at this point for what felt like forever. So I opted for a plank position so that I was no longer putting weight onto my belly, but hanging it loose instead. I should have asked him to stop, I shouldn't have worried about being polite at this point, but I continued to feel pressured not to say anything because the massage was "almost done". He now tells me to flip on my back and he'll work on my legs for the next 20 mins. I tell him I'm actually not supposed to be on my back at all this late in pregnancy (he should know this), but if it's just a couple of minutes I think it could be okay. I was honestly looking for anything to relieve the pressure on my belly at this point. After leaving the clinic, my belly immediately started to hurt, kind of like the feeling you get when you've been punched in a muscle. I assume this is from so much weight leaning on my tender uterus muscle. I'm starting to fear the worst, can this procedure be unsafe? Why would they offer it if it isn't safe? So I do some research when I get home and find out that no pregnant women should be asked to lie in this position for any amount of time, and that qualified prenatal specialists will have you in a side lying position. The pregnancy tables with a hole cut out are dangerous if you're too small or if you're too big for them. If you're too small, the belly hangs down and can cause unnecessary strain on your back and ligaments in your stomach that are designed to hold baby in place. there's also my situation, being too big for the hole. Especially in this situation where there is actually a firm surface at the end of a hole, your amniotic sac gets compressed and restricts movement for your child which could be seriously harmful. I'm not in complete disbelief. I trusted these medical experts. Yes, I should have researched first, but again, I trusted these medical experts. I can't help but feel like the money made from this massage was more important to this RMT and this practice than the safety of my child. DO NOT BOOK HERE FOR A PRENATAL MASSAGE.

I was skeptical of Massage Therapists because the ones that I had treatment from in the past were not proficient enough to assist me with rectifying my injuries and conditions, and let's say they didn't give forth a great effort. The RMT's at The Treatment Room actually care about your health, they are constantly improving because they care about the patients and their practice. Every visit you will have the same consistency of care (100 percent effort). The rooms are clean with calming decor and the RMT's are as professional as it gets. I recently moved to Edmonton Alberta 2 years ago and I am still looking at trying to find a RMT practice that even comes close to The Treatment Room. You will not find a better practice out there.

I was looking for: - a bit of ambiance (vs. a clinical/sports massage experience) - a knowledgeable and experienced RMT - a clean and comfortable experience - just the right amount of pressure (mix of deep pressure and relaxation) *If you're offered an essential oil during your massage (Rosewood!), that's a bonus! I'm getting ready to go on maternity leave within the next 2 months, and I'm booked for a massage every week! The Treatment Room is great and conveniently located near Chester Station. My only hesitation about recommending it, is that it may cause the massage schedule to fill up! :)

It's in a location I like and had a good, informative, and updated website. I couldn't be happier that I decided to visit. SUCH a welcoming space and friendly staff. I've been here twice and always left as a completely new person. My favourite is Jonathan Kohl. He is care is magical. If you haven't tried Fascial Stretch Therapy, PLEASE give that a try with Jonathan and be prepared to have your body totally revamp! My another favourite is Marcelo Javier Curbelo-Suarez. He gave me an amazing impactful Cupping Therapy experience!

What's hot - Quality. I had Catherine and she was wonderful. She reviewed my health summary and understood the issues I had and definitely knew how to address them. She asked me how much pressure I prefer and certainly applied that very well. She was respectful and responsive to the issues. She focused on my problem areas, applied an excellent amount of pressure, checked in a couple of times during the process , and also massaged my temples and scalp a little bit. Personally, I love that attention to detail, because I've learned where my body holds tension and I appreciate it when masseuses can address that properly. My husband had Veraleen and she was great, as well. She applied a good amount of pressure to my husband's trouble spots and he enjoyed the experience. - Service. Overall, they're pretty good. I booked our massages through their website and they responded by calling soon after. They also made certain we each filled our a health survey. My husband forgot to fill his out and their staffer at the front desk ensured he did so before the massage started. - Facilities. Clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. The room for the couples massage is a good amount of space and not cramped. There's only one restroom in their facility for the customers. - Location. Pretty good and easy to find. There's also parking nearby, which is helpful, because they're downtown. - Health insurance. My husband and I are tourists, so we paid out of pocket, but it appears they take health insurance, which is great. You can fill out health insurance information when you schedule online and I heard their staffer confirm another couples' insurance, who had just finished and was on their way out when we arrived. What's not - 50 minutes instead of a full hour. I'm bummed their massage doesn't go for the full hour, especially due to the price. - Price. To be fair, they're more reasonable than other massage services, which is why I chose them. As mentioned previously, that it's $129 for less than 1 hour seems a bit high. - Website. By the way, if you book a couples massage, be aware of booking each one separately. The first time I tried it, I double booked for myself. Their website isn't the most straightforward, so be aware of that if you're trying to book for others. - Construction noise. To be fair, they have no control over this. I bring this up so people are aware there is currently construction going on, which adds to the noise. Not pleasant, but it just forced me to focus on Catherine's technique, which was great. Final Answer Would be willing to come back if we ever return to the area and would recommend them to others.
