    Outdoor helicopter/plane exhibit.

Very cool museum that is located on base at Ft Eustis. It's also FREE, although we did donate into the donation box. Indoor exhibits are mostly in chronological order with plenty to see. Outdoor exhibits feature trains, planes, helicopters and other forms of transportation. I would allocate at least two hours to see everything. Since it's on base, you have to get a one day pass. When approaching the gate there is a brick building on the right side, go there first to get your security clearance. They will ask for your id so make sure to have that ready. It was a quick 10-15 minute processs.

Wow, so very impressed by this museum! The collection of vehicles is amazing and the way that they have it arranged as maintained, everything is done so well. The one thing that I didn't expect is that this museum is located on an actual military base, Ft. Eustis. So when you get to the base it's 100% ID check for adults and they will search your car. So just be prepared for that. We came because it was free admission and items at 9am. For some reason kids on vacation always wake up super early... Upon arrival at the museum (Plenty of free parking) there's a large outdoor exhibit with land vehicles, planes, ships...and every one has a plaque with description. The plaques are informative and succinct. The vehicles are just so impressive. The collection is outstanding, and love how they are placed, it really tells a story. We went to the outdoor exhibit first, then indoor. There's a small gift shop with an attendant that greets you, and you go in for the tour. I think there's an audio tour, not sure if that's free. The indoor area has plenty of exhibits, uniforms, paintings, photos, memorabilia...You could easily spend an entire half day or more here. Brought my 2 boys here, they marveled at everything inside and out. Oh and there's a whole train yard too, with trucks and tanks too. Amazing. My 5 year old loved the models exhibited showing historical vehicles to present. The museum accepts donations so we left one on our way out. It's totally worth a visit if you're in the area. Very unexpected gem. Loved our visit, truly fantastic!

The coolest boat I've ever seen!

This place exceeded expectations. We picked up a pamphlet at a tourist kiosk in Williamsburg. Figured why not stop since it's free. Place was massive, had an extensive collection of vehicles and we loved that every war had an indoor section with lifelike exhibits. My favorite part was the tug boat in the outdoor shipyard.

The McKenzie…read moreFitness Center is the main gym and it's well-equipped, clean, and easy to use without feeling chaotic. It's a true workhorse gym, not just a token fitness space. If you're into golf, the Fort Eustis Golf Club is a big draw and one of those features people forget is even there until someone mentions it. For Outdoor Rec, the Eustis Outdoor Recreation (Adventure Center) is where all the rentals and gear live. That's where you go for equipment, seasonal items, and anything that lets you do something fun without owning all the gear yourself. The Eustis RV Park is also a real asset for families and visitors, and it's used far more than people realize. If you've got kids or just like low-key entertainment, Eustis Lanes Bowling Center is a staple. It's not flashy, but it's reliable, affordable, and an easy win for family time. Add in the Disc Golf Course, playgrounds, and walking areas, and you actually have a decent variety of things to do without leaving base.

I mean let's face it, the State in which one lies might even be a factor. So, I'll base my review off of someone who works here and obviously spends a great deal of time here. Albeit generally in the same office every day... point A to B. Housing looks pretty sad, but I cannot attest. The PX is average and adequate. It has a gun section, so that's a plus. The food court inside said PX is pretty lame, and unlike other posts that offset the offerings with food trucks outside in the parking lot, not here. Here's what I do like... a golf course that's very nice. It offers the full 18 and a "Quick Six," that's perfect for walking. The James River for great fishing access (bank only, no boat ramp). There is a small canoe/kayak access point with parking lot. Though I don't partake, there's a pretty nice aquatic center, and the gym is average. All in all it's a pretty post compared to many, and I think most would agree.
