Completed in 1897 in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, it's one of those courthouses that looks exactly like the late nineteenth century wanted to be remembered. The heavy archives, towers at the corners and a clock tower that refuses to be ignored. Paris has been the county seat since 1823 and you can feel that long civic history in the way the courthouse anchors the square. Henry County itself was formed in 1821 and named for Patrick Henry (of the "Give me liberty or give me death" fame), which explains the portrait you'll find inside if you ever get to visit during open hours. Walking the grounds is straightforward, and the building's scale makes even a quick lap feel worthwhile. And yes, as expected for a Tennessee courthouse of this era, there's a Confederate memorial on the lawn, standing in that familiar pose seen across the region. It's part of the layered civic landscape here, but the real draw is the courthouse itself, a striking piece of architecture that still carries the weight of its long role in the Henry County story.
