My instructor, Dave Herman and my host, Sonny Mayo, is one of those very few competent beyond any standard to deliver and instruct knowledge based off of life experiences and what they have personally been through. Instead of a 18 Hour CCW Class, I walked into a 2 day knowledge transfer that was both very engaging and worth every dollar I have spent. When you sign up for this NYS 18 Hour CCW Class, you are not just getting the technical rundown, live fire and a certificate in end; you are walking into such a wonderful 18 hours of classroom that I would happily take for a whole week again multiple times over. When you leave the classroom you will understand how heavy the burden of such a weapon carries and your moral and legal responsibility of a gun with stories, laughter and real diamonds worth of knowledge. You leave with a smile knowing that the instructor has done his absolute best to deliver not only an instructional class as well as a very entertaining and welcoming environment to be in. My host, Sonny Mayo felt as if I was being cared for by my own family. I loved every second being there and never once did I ever close my eyes during the 16 hour lecture for the two days I was present at this class. The friendliness and overall warm hospitality that was provided by Sonny coupled by Dave's gift of gab ultimately made the class worth every dollar. It really takes a combination of a wonderful mentor, Dave Herman, and wonderful environment provided by Sonny Mayo that ultimately made me feel accomplished and welcomed during my time there. I would happily call them both father in the next life. This is by far the best NYS 18 Hour CCW Class you will ever get for your money in New York City. I absolutely cannot wait to get them again in 3 years for my refresher course for my Concealed Carry License.

I recently attended the Westchester Firearms Safety 16 hour Course on March 15-16, 2025 to fulfill…read morethe NY requirement for CCW application and I can confidently say this was the best firearms training I have ever taken! Having held a CCW in multiple other states for 23 years and being a military veteran with significant prior firearms exposure, I have taken my fair share of training courses but none have matched the professionalism, depth, and structure of this one. Day 1: Firearms Safety The safety training was on point--thorough, clear, and structured in a way that catered to everyone, from first-time gun owners to experienced CCW holders. The instructors ensured that every single participant left with a full understanding of safe firearm handling. The multiple layers of safety reinforcement--classroom instruction, two separate mock firearm simulations with dummy guns, and live range training--ensured that no detail was overlooked. Day 2: Legal Instruction & Range Training The legal portion was exceptionally well-delivered. As a recent law school graduate, I was already familiar with firearms laws, but the way the instructors broke down complex legal concepts made it understandable for any layperson to grasp with confidence. The range training was perfectly structured, allowing for progressive learning--starting with drills and simulated exercises before firing 15 live rounds into targets. The instructors patiently guided each participant, ensuring they built confidence and proper technique, whether they were first-time shooters or seasoned carriers. Exceptional Instructors: True Professionals Instructor Joe Martini - Joe's extensive credentials speak for themselves, but his dedication to firearm safety and skill-building is what truly sets him apart. A true expert and highly trained instructor, Joe's knowledge and ability to teach at all skill levels made this course an exceptional experience. Instructor Sgt. Paul Conforti - With a background as a retired police officer and FBI/NRA-certified firearms instructor, Sgt. Conforti brought real-world experience and tactical analysis expertise to the class. His instruction was clear, no-nonsense, and incredibly valuable for anyone serious about responsible firearm ownership. Final Thoughts This course is a MUST (literally) for anyone looking to obtain a CCW or simply improve their firearm knowledge and safety. The professionalism, thoroughness, and real-world training scenarios provided far exceeded my expectations. Whether you're a new gun owner or a seasoned shooter, this course will make you better, safer, and more prepared. I highly recommend Westchester Firearms Safety Course to anyone serious about firearm safety and training!
