Had a great stay at Armada Hotel recently. Great location, a short walk to Sultanahmet, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque. Near the water (Sea of Marmara), close to Kennedy Cad. walking through old archways to the shore. You can see the seas from the windows in your room (if you're lucky to get one facing that direction), from the great rooftop terrace or the breakfast area - one side views of the water (even spotted dolphins one morning), the other, views of Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. Nice lobby, with a small pond of turtles, memoiabillia, historical artifacts. The room (Queen size bed) was clean, comfortable, cutely decorated with nice touches (like paintings on furniture), nice colors, slippers, plenty of soaps in the bathroom, lots of storage, best bath towels (absorbent and big), teas, coffee, water bottle and another one in the mini fridge. We had room cleaning once and the lady did a great job, bringing more water, swiping the floors, making the beds, putting the bathroom back together. Nice touching gifts - like the nice bookmarks we found on the nightstand! Staff was nice and attentive, from the booking phase, to check in, they brought us lemonades till they finished cleaning our room, to every day help. At the end, they were nice to call for a taxi for the airport on our behalf and they helped with luggage and all, made sure we left early to make our flight due to road closures for May 1st holiday. Even if the hotel is lively, has a bar and a restaurant, it was quiet, no issues at night, got great night sleep. Comfy bed, pillows, comforter. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we ever had, they do put lots of hotels in US to shame! You can get your regular cereals, omelet, boiled eggs, but you have great fruits (best watermelon) and fresh vegetables, Turkish pastries, cheese-s, jellies (quince, apricot, orange), tahini, home made yogurt, local treats. Nice coffee, try the Turkish chai/tea and the Cherry juice is a must! Once again, nice service and great views all around. Great hotel to stay while visiting Istanbul. Affordable, pampering, nice experience. And since it's Istanbul, the hotel has its own cat that greets you! Wonderful location, staff, view, local touches! read more

This was a beautiful hotel with a breathtaking rooftop view of the Blue Mosque; clean, spacious, nicely decorated rooms; and friendly staff! I enjoyed my stay for the most part, however there was one thing that made the stay extremely unpleasant. There's a fountain in the lobby where several aquatic turtles are kept, and all of them were sick due to improper husbandry (no UV lights or heat, no exposure to sunlight, lobby lights on 24/7). The turtles were pale and one of them had pneumonia (floating sideways in the water); another was extremely weak and minimally responsive. I own several aquatic turtles and am a veterinarian with special interest in reptiles, and seeing these sick animals with improper housing really upset me. The staff seemed receptive when I offered suggestions for improving their housing and welfare, but it's hard to say whether anything was done after I left. Also, there were several songbirds in dark, dirty cages, also with no exposure to sunlight or UV light, who looked depressed and did not appear healthy. Several other visitors I spoke with felt the same way about the welfare of the animals at the hotel. If these animals can't be housed properly, then I don't see the point of displaying them. It's a turn-off to tourists who care about animal welfare. Keeping reptiles and birds healthy in captivity involves specialized care and lots of research. I truly hope the hotel owners/staff can either improve their living conditions or rehome them altogether and avoid having exotic pets on display going forward. I've been thinking about these poor animals months after my visit, and I hope they're not still suffering. read more

My friend read in his Lonely Planet book that this place was the best in Sultanahmet (although this area isn't known for spectacular food), so we decided to splurge and treat ourselves to a nice lunch at the rooftop restaurant. Fantastic views of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, and the sea. But the food was quite disappointing. The cold appetizer was okay, my cherry juice was good, but my fish did not taste fresh. Beautiful presentation, but we've had much better food at lower prices in Istanbul. I guess we paid for the ambiance and the view, but the food was not spectacular. read more

We stayed in Istanbul 1 night here last week. This hotel was the perfect choice for us. It has a great location, great staff, great breakfast, great restaurant, good value, and great views from terrace. We would definitely stay here again. This hotel is located in the Fatih area near Sultanahmet. It is walking distance to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and the sea. It was very easy to find interesting things to see just from walking around. (We had trouble finding our way back to the hotel both days, but luckily everyone in the area seemed to know where our hotel was). The view from the terrace and restaurant is amazing. One direction looks out at the sea, the other side looks at the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. This place has a lot of weddings on the terrace in the summer. I'm not the slightest bit surprised, this seems like an incredible place to get married. We were one floor below the terrace, and the wedding above us quieted down around 11pm, so we did not have trouble sleeping. We had dinner here after walking around for a while, since we were tired and just wanted to find the hotel so we could settle in for the evening. The restaurant was great. As stated above, the view was amazing. It was so cool to sit and eat on the roof with the amazing view, and the food was delicious. I had sea bass and my husband had chicken skewers. Both were delicious. The room was comfortable. The bathroom was really cool! I loved the shower, and the olive oil soaps. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. They made everything easy! The breakfast was amazing. There was a long table filled with delicious items. I could eat breakfast from here every day and not get tired of it! They had tons of fresh and dried fruit. Many different fresh local pastries. So many types of meats and cheeses. Several varieties of eggs. Fresh squeezed orange juice. This may be the best hotel breakfast I've ever had (it's a tie with the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, but that breakfast was expensive and this one was included!) On top of that, the view with breakfast was amazing. I really hope to return to Istanbul! I would love to stay here again. This was one of my favorite hotel stays ever. read more

What a great hotel - stayed here over the summer of 2016 for a few days while visiting Istanbul. Love love love their rooftop restaurant - amazing views and the food is REALLY good!! I love the warm goat cheese salad and the 'Turkish ravioli' - so rich but so, so incredibly yummy. And the wine selection is decent. Plus the service is so friendly - these guys are top notch! Their Turkish breakfast buffet is also lovely - so many kinds of cheese mmmm and fresh honey in the honecomb, granola and fruits galore, omelettes and hard boiled eggs, toast, etc etc. Plus of course Turkish coffee. Honestly if I stayed here a lot I would be so fat! Only downside is the rooms are a bit small (as is the bathroom) - but if you're gonna be out most of the day and night - who cares?! Love this spot - walking distance to Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi palace, etc etc. If you're gonna stay in Sultanahmet - stay here! read more

Great boutique hotel in Fatih area of Istanbul. My husband always stays here when he travels to Istanbul, so he took me here. I was not disappointed. Front desk staff was friendly and knowledgeable, walking distance to the Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Sea of Marmara, Golden Horn, etc. The room and bathroom was very nice, wifi is included. The breakfast buffet on the roof top was extensive and delicious! And the view was amazing! I highly recommend you stay here. read more

Fantastic hotel with one of the best views in Istanbul. The breakfast spread is amazing and the staff is friendly and professional. When I was having a small medical problem, the front desk responded immediately to help, brought me tylenol and was ready to arrange a visit to the doctor, which was incredibly comforting. The rooms are lovely, room service is speedy and reasonably priced, and internet access is reliable. Highly recommended! read more

Our new favorite in Istanbul. We stayed here twice in three weeks and had comfortable rooms with great service. Our rooms were small but well arranged and quite comfortable. Included breakfast buffet was extensive and excellent. The view from the roof terrace restaurant was very special: Sea of Marmarra on one side and Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia on the other side. The Wifi is included, simple and fast. Front desk staff were very helpful and accommodating. There is an ATM just outside. This hotel is within walking distance to the major tourist attractions in the old city (Sultanahmet). read more
