How lucky we were to discover La Bergerie! (The Sheepfold) It is primarily a women's clothing (plus jewelry and accessories) store although my husband found three elegant shirts and three beautiful sweaters as well. Last month (May) as we were driving (in Brittany) from Vannes to Dinan, we stopped in the quaint village of Rochefort en Terre for lunch and afterwards, took a walk around the town. We had not planned to shop for anything. But ducking into a small shop, we found ourselves happily talking with Brigitte, the proprietor of La Bergerie.
Before I knew it, I was modeling shirts and matching shells (loose-fitting sleeveless tops), a full-length sweater coat, a jacket and an elegant and fancy flowing top suitable to wear to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City (which we love). We spent an hour talking and trying on (and then, buying) various garments, a dozen in all. Each one seemed as if Brigitte had picked it out especially for me. I've never been in a shop that matched my tastes so perfectly. Most of the items we purchased were made in Italy and were hand-knitted or handmade, unique selections that were one-of-kind, mostly understated and elegant. Brigitte even gave me a personal lesson in how to wrap my scarves in the very "French manner."
Brigitte is expanding her shop space and inventory this summer to include a next-door shop. We wish her lots of luck! She has a great talent for choosing clothes that are fashionable, modest and stylish without being "showy." I would stress that the clothes she chooses speak for themselves. Yet she also has an encouraging, but not "pushy," way of guiding those of us looking for garments or outfits that match our personality. She helps us find just the right "fit" for us. We highly recommend Brigitte's La Bergerie!
