Poor service. Anyone serious about an education should find another place to attend. I would not recommend this place.

I am a 2006 graduate from Henderson State University. I'm not up to date on the things going on…read morethere right now. I do know that several important departments were cut these past few years that were a staple for the university prior. I've been told that Newberry Hall has been taken down. It is where I stayed during my time there. I understand the building of the new apartments down by the football field and cutting back several programs would reduce the number of students enrolling there. I guess they figured there's no need for a 9 story building for housing male students. I'm very proud of the time I spent there. All of the administrators, professors, and teachers were respectful, understanding, and leaders for us students. There are a lot of opportunities at the school for students to be involved in, many activities. When I was there, the cafe was the Caddo Cafe. The food was average at best, but that was the allure of the place. Man, those powdered Caddo eggs for breakfast disrupted the digestive system in many ways every time. But you enjoyed eating them with the great friends you make there. I've read the 2 other reviews about this great university. I want to apologize to you both for your terrible experiences there. As an alumni, I am embarrassed that the school failed you both miserably. During my time there, the financial aid lady was the QUEEN of all collegiate financial aids. She'd wave a magic wand over whatever questions or issues you had, and they got resolved QUICK. I wasn't aware there was a veterans affairs department on campus when I was there. I've never had a reason to deal with them, so I can't help you there. And to Dustin, did financial aid not realize you could use BOTH parents' tax information to file your fafsa? I was living with my mom and step dad at the time I was there and I believe I filed using their married tax return. Also, who was your custodial parent when you filed your fafsa? You should have been able to just use that tax information to file. And to the latest reviewer, I'm not familiar with Dr. Laird. I'm not sure why she would have treated you the way that she did. A real head scratcher from me. I'd encourage you to give them another try. They aren't the first college to have made mistakes with their students, but they do correct those mistakes moving forward. Great university, great atmosphere, and great tradition and history. The shortest rivalry in all of college sports, the Battle of the Ravine, a MUST experience! Give them a shot...or give them ANOTHER shot! You won't regret it!

If you are a veteran, please, consider a different college, the VA department is absolutely awful…read more it takes the VA representative until the end of the semester to process your information every semester. You will be lied to saying it was submitted not thinking you can log into your VA account and see if it has been submitted or if anything has been uploaded. Also, when calling the VA they verify that nothing has been submitted. This college also takes back scholarship money they offer you even with contracts you signed with them being the reason you choose the college on the grounds of a new law signed by the Governor while other colleges choose to honor their contracts and not take their scholarships back because they see that you're receiving outside scholarships. Also, you have professors that distespect and dislike you due to your nationality. The dean will talk in circles if you go to her never resolving issues and brushing the students off. The dorms aren't properly cleaned at move in and then they charge you a fee stating damage or the dorm was not clean enough at move out. This good be a great school, but it starts with a major revamp on leadership especially the Dean of Students. Choose a college that will be in your best interest all around.

People were always leaving and the person who was appointed as the fish pathologist doesn't have a background in fish pathology, so basically you will not gain much knowledge. She only tries to talk about cell biology, she worked on some cancer protein in her grad school so she wants to belittle every other science including fisheries and Aquaculture. If you choose another lab it might be good but be cautious and don't ever go to this place if you want to learn anything regarding pathology.

I am a graduate of the University so people would think that this review would be slightly biased,…read morebut I am going to give my overall honest opinion about the University as a whole. The overall structure and upkeep of some building are not up to the standard of what some would expect and if you do not read or understand the structure of the Universities community as a whole you will be in the dark about a lot of situations. There is also not a system for you to understand where you are in the process of obtaining financial aid and signing important documents. The majority of everything that is done on campus is done on paper and the female dorm rooms are predominantly more expensive and there is no housing for married couples or students with children. I felt rather safe on campus, but Pine Bluff is notorious for being "dangerous", but if you don't hang around troublesome people trouble will not follow you. The cafe food is better than any other cafe in the state of Arkansas and if you qualify for in state tuition the cost is rather cheap. The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff teaches valuable life skills and gives you the proper education to advance in the workforce. Is it Yale? No, but that is because the alumni do not pour into the University like they do at Yale nor do they speak highly about their own University, but that's another story for another time. I would recommend this school to those who would like to attend, I have seen a great progression of advancement since I have attended the University and I believe that they are making great strides to become a 5 star University instead of a 3 star University.
