My wife and I have been traveling in Mexico for past 9 days, started from Taxco, Mexico City, Guanajuato and to Morelia. Of course, past 9 days, we have never eaten any Asian food (we are Koreans :+) and we were dying to have some good Asian food.
We are staying in the downtown in Morelia and we were looking for some place (any Asian food) with good reviews nearby. My wife found this place with about 500 reviews with 4.5 star rating. I kind of knew that it would be bit iffy but we decided to give it a go.
When we arrived there (just 5 min walk from our hotel), there was no one except 3 employees, all playing with their phones. A moment of pause (small doubt), but we decided to give it a try.
we order a couple of rolls. Salmon skin roll for me, Hong Kong roll for my wife. Even though there were absolutely no customer, it took them quite a while to prepare and bring them over.
They were absolutely different than what we used to (we live in Los Angeles) and we have travelled many Asian countries enough that we would know how it should look and what they should contain.
Basically, we have never had that type of "really bad" sushi rolls in our lives. Not only it was completely different than what they were supposed to be, but also the ingredients they used were literally horrible. Rice was way to stick and old. They put just too much philadelphia creams everywhere. And my wife roll was supposed to have tuna! But they used canned tuna (dried up canned tuna) for her roll. It was just amazingly bad that we can not just describe it properly.
we both barely touched the food and had to walk out.
That really shows that we can not really trust the reviews and if you are in deep in Mexico, better to stick to Mexican foods, rather than taking a huge chance. read more
