This branch is located in the dead centre of Penge High St and is so handy for stocking up on essentials, browsing for pleasure to get some ideas i.e. presents or treats just for yourself not forgetting the fantastic sales and discounts here which are missing from other more central stores near to my workplace. It does become quite busy here on Saturdays so an early morning visit is advisable otherwise I intend to continue frequenting this branch with my custom. Look for the regular sales/discounts in front of shop and towards the back where there is plenty of space to browse both places without having to move if it becomes busy in the aisles if only more stores considered this important feature well done Penge branch and keep up the good work! Blast From My Happy Past…read more When I was a kid, every Saturday my Dad would take me to the library to borrow books. On the our short walk home, we would alway stop at Flemings for a quarter mix of sweets. As it was also my pocket money day, I loved being able to pick and pay for my weekly sugar hit. I remember being on tiptoe, peering over the glass top shop counter, looking in wonder at row upon row of tall plastic containers full of sweets. There were Flying Saucers, Pineapple Cubes, Lemon Sherbets, Cola Bottles, Apples Sours, Rhuburb and Custards, Raspberry Shoelaces and so many other great things. I never thought I'd find that level of sugary joy again, until I stumbled upon Mr Simms Beckenham. This modern twist on the old school sweet shop was totally on point for me. From the cute displays, retro packaging and those all important plastic containers, full of my childhood favourites; it made me smile from the minute we entered the store. Run by Cancer Guler, a charming, ambitious,young entrepreneur with a passion for his product and a self- certified degree in customer service, our visit left us in no doubt at all that this store, is one business that's on a roll. They seem to have everything - walls lined with jar after jar of sweets by the 1/4, or is that 100g in today's money? They even have a large sugar-free section. Sweets that I haven't heard of for decades were magically available! It's not a big shop, and it's better to be the only customers - the service is just how I remember sweet shop service to be: attentive, helpful and friendly. I am going again on Saturday when I get my pocket money!
