Her technique is difficult to explain and probably differs from patient to patient, but as a former patient dealing with the same life struggles that so many people deal with, I can say that seeing her helped me after a tragedy in my life when more traditional analytical therapists did not. I am equipped to more gracefully deal with life's issues. I now know and understand myself better. If you can get in to see her, I highly recommend it. I recently moved to Vermont and I was out of my zoloft. I am medically complex and had been let…read moredown by traditional doctors previously. I have had to fight my entire adult life to be heard and believed and get a diagnosis, so I thought to try a more holistic practice. Dr Hobie started out the visit by saying I was more likely to die in a car crash than a serious illness and I had about 10 years left before I needed to worry. I was pretty confused, because what?? but we moved on. I began explaining about myself and my symptoms and journey to get my diagnosis of hEDS (sidenote: We are commonly called the "Zebras of the medical world" because doctors are trained to think of the most common cause first- "When you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras" and we are constantly gaslit about our own body by the medical community.) I get very little physical activity due to my condition. Dr Hobie told me that if I gained 20lbs of muscle, it would basically solve all my problems with my condition. I am literally disabled. That is a difficult feat for a typical able-bodied person. He did not perform any type of physical evaluation of me, other than listen to my heart for less than 30 seconds. I said I was having certain symptoms that I believed to be neurological and wanted a referral to a neurologist. He said "a neurologist is a BRAIN doctor," as if I didn't know that. Made me feel very stupid and unheard. He continued to dismiss all my symptoms such as tingling in my arms/hands and legs/feet, constant dizzy headache that worsens with activity, fainting - (he said "How many times," and brought up the gaining lbs of muscle thing again) ringing in my ears, fluid leaking from my nose when i leean forward/bend over unrelated to illness that resolves immediately when returning upright. Dr. Hobie said "ringing in your ears"--pointed to his ear-- "ear--ENT. Your symptoms aren't neurological. A neurologist isn't going to see you for fluid coming out of your nose." like I was so stupid for suggesting that the combination of my symptoms could be neurological. And even if they aren't, there is a way to communicate without belittling. Living in my failing body for 32 years, its safe to say I have done my FAIR bit of research into my condition. I mentioned chiari malformation, cervical instability, CSF leak, conditions that are common with EDS as possibilities. He dismissed all of them and said "none of your symptoms are related to those. We need to look at more common things, not things that less than 1000 people are diagnosed with." I responded with the fact that I was well aware of the "Zebras" analogy. What I wanted to say was "He would have been too if he had done any google searching about EDS, which I noted in my pre appointment paperwork. And maybe more people would be diagnosed if their doctors would listen to them," but I was holding it together and just ready to leave. He suggested physical therapy at the place below his office, and lab work "to make sure nothing is gonna kill you right now." Mentioned me dying multiple times, it was weird. He said all my problems were related to ENT and then DID NOT REFER ME TO ENT or note any of my complaints in my chart about my symptoms. I cried in the car on my way home. Do not come here if you have any chronic illness. 2 stars for getting my zoloft filled.

The Adventure Recovery outings were so important in helping me regain confidence in building healthy, sober connections with others. These sober adventures included paddle boarding on Lake Champlain, River Rafting, cold water plunges with breath work workshops, hiking, rock climbing, pickleball, and so many more activities. River Rock changed the course of my life. The hardest thing was to reach out and ask for help. That fear was put to rest immediately upon my first phone session with their wonderful Admissions Mgr, Mary, she is the best of the best. Choosing the right program for regaining my mental and emotional health was the most important decision I've made in recent years. River Rock is truly a light house standing as a beacon of hope for those of us being tossed about in the turbulent waters of life. Honestly, I feel that Appletree Physical Therapy Practice in Burlington is top notch! The…read moretherapists are awesome! All of them are knowledgeable and have been practicing for a long time and work well as a group. I had a complicated shoulder repair ( second surgery, bicep, rotator cuff, 5 anchors etc). 7 weeks after surgery my shoulder froze up. I am a tennis player and I knew this was going to be a long recovery. I researched many therapy groups in the Burlington area and needed to find a good PT and I chose Appletree even though it was a half hour drive to get there. It was 100% worth it! I worked with Dan Curry for my rehab. and he was terrific. At our first meeting, he conducted an intensive intake and really listened to the history of my shoulder issues. He is a medical professional who listens and actually remembers what the problems are and took the surgeons' plan, and followed it yet he also added his own expertise which I found to be very helpful. He and the other therapists know their science and how to balance the passive and active techniqes and gradually introduce the strengthening. Up until my final vist, Dan's care and approach was excellent. All of the therapists there were so good and they have worked with each other for many years. It felt like I was part of their "family" every time I came in. There is a lot of humor. It is a very happy place! Dan's approach was caring and balanced nicely - He massaged the shoulder and used the ultrasound thingy for the first 10 minutes of each session. Then we did the exersizes, and he recorded my progress/ measurements for how high I could reach etc. Next, we did table exercizes and he did the manual stretching which can be painful. He would stretch me further each time, but he was able to "read" my face and knew how far to stretch. Lastly, each session, I had the Tens machine and ice /heat for 15 minutes. Appletree is very busy and from what I observed, they treat athletes and all age groups. I was so impressed with their treatment of the elderly patients and also the playfulness of their style with the younger generation. All of them were interactive with all of the patients and it is clear that they care about the patients and their recovery. They make doing PT fun and that is a pretty high compliment! They were extremely rude and called me untruthful when I have no reason to lie, I was going based off what I was told. They told me I was "changing my story" and that "Andy would never do that" when my story had not changed at all, I was communicating that it was unfair to have all my appointments cancelled when I was simply following orders. I have been waiting months for this care and to be treated like this is absolutely unacceptable. I have never been treated this badly by healthcare professionals before.
