Get with the program, KUNM…read more Saturday night, 11pm, I flip the dial and I'm immediately asleep. Your weekend programming, during the evenings, is a wreck. The same can generally be said for evenings at large: the music is tired, it doesn't connect with this city, I'm sick of listening to blues on a Saturday night. I'm not listening. Are you listening to me? I'm not listening. And that's a shame, because I tune you in every morning. Religiously. I'm an NPR addict and a big fan of your other shows, from Latino USA (I'm not Latino) to This Way Out (I'm not GLBT) to your awesome call-in program, I'm interested, but when it comes to music I stream internet music stations instead. Ridiculous. And wrong. As I stated in the previous review, I recognize that your audience is exceptionally varied, I can identify with your struggle to please every demographic. But it's time to get with the modern music program, or lose the next generation of listeners entirely.

Not to mention I won tickets to a show at the infamous Meow Wolf in Santa Fe! The dj was super nice as well as the young gal at the front desk of their offices downtown! Spend an hour with them during the week and you'll find that they craft a lively, entertaining and often personal Days Of Our Burque Lives program each and every day. It's an impressive feat, something that most shows really fail to deliver because hey, it's hard. But the team is really stellar. Concerning the music, this station really needs to connect with a huge demographic, so you're getting a mix of mostly feel-good pop and rock, with a lil' sompin' sompin' thrown in to throw you off every now and then. I'm probably interested in about a quarter of it, but that figures. I'm a music snob and I'm not a big fan of mainstream stuff, so winning me over is really futile. For you 80's enthusiasts, they mix tape a pretty decent selection at the noon hour. Go check 'em out, you might find your new breakfast buddies.

That said, I've listened to KIOT plenty, especially at my favorite laundromat when I was in grad school. Unlike the sensationalized, over-the-top stations I grew up with (and 94 Rock here), KIOT's format is a great mix of obvious classics and plenty of deeper, longer tracks. You'll find some of the lesser-played Hendrix and Stones on this station, with fewer commercial breaks and DJs that generally keep it cool. Speaking of DJs, Erika Viking is the star of the morning show, and the day for that matter. She mixes up smart, hilarious content with personal commentary that seriously connects her with the audience, a rare trait for a host, and her guests are usually pretty entertaining, to boot. For a commercial station in ABQ, this is a solid choice.

All you really need to know: From 4am-noon, every weekday, they broadcast a good selection of NPR news and affiliated shows. After that, it's New Mexican all the way. Saturdays are the opposite, with NPR in the afternoon, and this station is a good Sunday option if you want something informative and fun, most of the day is interesting. So if you're down with Julión Álvarez Y Su Norteño Banda, tune in, and if you're looking for public programming, try tuning into the sister station on the other end of the dial, 107.5 FM.

Native American&Spanish music Car Talk- Yes, the Car Talk guys hail from Cambridge, Massachusetts, but this a fun automotive show! Thistle&Shamrock- Celtic music There's great variety, unlike most public radio stations nowadays. It's educational and fun!
