I was also informed many times (I stopped counting at 5) that they were having a meeting, but I should sign the guest registry, make a donation and walk around and just pretend they weren't there. It was funny the first few times. After I stopped counting, I shoved $1 in the donation bin and left. Super cute place. Signs all over that it is a museum, don't touch, and items had price tags. Not all items had price tags. There was just so much going on here, item wise and people wise. I walked around some outside and it was all very lovely.

Inside is more than 25- digging for treasure, a stage, a grocery store, e-sports, sugar cane harvester, puppets, dress up, music.... There was a wooden fence all around the property and gates that were locked. I was hoping there would be someone here to let people walk around. But there wasn't. There was a gravel parking lot. They are not open yet for tours, but they hope to on April 1, as that is a day they are having a market here. The gentleman working was very friendly and helpful and suggested I walk around the grounds. I did a bit of shopping in the gift store. The guy working said they were working on a new book about the mascot goat they have meeting the Rougarou that lives here and they become friends. The city of Houma does have an annual Rougarou Festival that is quite thrilling.

The place is worth a stop if you like touring 18th century homes and stepping into a bit of American history. For a few bucks you can take a guided tour for about an hour and stroll along the grounds. It is not as expansive or expensive as some of the tours along the Mississippi, but it does stand out from the growing modern city of Houma and its neighboring strip subdivisions.

Since we were pressed for time, we opted to give ourselves a walk-through and there is plenty of info posted along the walls inside the house to learn some history. Looks like the dastardly Ida did some damage to the front yard and fencing, but aside from that, it's a well-maintained place. Cute little two-story plantation house with a detached kitchen out back. And don't forget to sign the guest book in the visitor center.

This was the home of the 10th governor of the state of Louisiana (E D White Sr) and where his son (E D White Jr) who became a lawyer and eventually the Lead Supreme Court Justice, who also voted in favor of Plessy in Plessy v Ferguson. The house is immaculate and is still a work in progress. The kitchen is simple, but of the time. The surrounding grounds are still used for sugar fields. Amazing. The entrance is tricky to find. I suggest this for anyone in the area or coming to the area.
