This review is a bit belated but I had a wonderful experience with Ardent Piano a few months ago. They came highly recommended by a local music shop and it was clear that the gentleman (I believe it was Mr. Dorsey?) who came out was professional, kind, and intelligent. It was also clear that he really knew what he was doing and was a true craftsman. Piano repairs had been a part of his family business for generations and I was very impressed with how thorough his knowledge was, especially for what ended up being a somewhat complicated repair. I very rarely use Yelp and have never left a review for anyone but I found the other negative review so astonishing I felt I absolutely had to chime in. Considering how busy Mr. Dorsey sounded and his high level of skill, I think it's entirely reasonable that there be a fee for house calls -- otherwise, someone could easily waste hours of his valuable time. In my particular case, I was very limited in what my schedule would allow and he went out of his way to accommodate that. He also went out of his way to finish the repair sooner than he had initially thought he'd be able to so as to once again accommodate my needs. He did a wonderful job with both the repair and the subsequent tuning. If ever I need a piano repair or tuning in the future, I will absolutely look to use Ardent Piano again and hope others do too, as genuine craftsmen like those at Ardent Piano are truly rare. read more

I spoke to the lady on phone to see very if they could tune my piano for I have some keys that doesn't work. And what would be the charge? She said it would run between $85 and $135 depending on the tuning but he would need to come out take a look to see what is wrong with the piano. I said OK and scheduled for the tuning. So the day of the tuning he was early and appeared very odd. He looked in the piano and played the keys then opened the bottom. he asked is there a bench. I said no. then he said i can sell you a piano with bench for $700 for there was a lot of work which would need to be done and would run around $800. Now remember, I just wanted to o get the keys that was not working to be fixed and the piano tuned. I do not want to be sold a piano only to get mine fixed. I said no am not looking to buy another piano. I said I can't afford to get another piano. So he said well there is a service charge. A what? Service charge for what? I said. He said for coming out here. I said how much and I was not told of no service charge when I made the appointment. He said it was $75 and for him driving out here. I said I was not told. He said it was in his fee and he can fix the piano. I said no. He said that I was looking for getting free work done and you can find someone else. I said that is fine and , I was not informed of any service fee and I will find some one else. Then he stormed out of my house. I felt very uncomfortable with this experience for why would anyone pay a service charge when not informed and no service was done. Regardless, no if it is your business to travel to house to house full disclosure is very important to customer. And work or service must be provided to be paid for its like see what suckers will pay a service charge just for someone to come to look at a piano or anything. It appears he was trying to sell me a piano and charge me for his time when no work was done. I don't give money away for that I work hard for. I would never ever recommend a business like this to anyone. And if you think paying a service fee is good then let me come to your house to get your money for doing nothing.
