What a gem! This was hands down the best experience I had in London. I am from Oklahoma, USA and we were on our dream trip to Paris and London 2 weeks ago. We saw all the wonderful tourist sites in London and took a bus tour to Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Oxford. But as a book lover, the experience I had in this wonderful bookstore was the highlight of my trip. We found some great books at a discount from their sidewalk selections before we even entered the store. When we entered the store we were greeted by a lovely English speaking gentleman behind the counter and two other friendly, fine gentlemen were sitting on chairs across from the man behind the counter. As my daughter and I squeezed into the tiny nooks and crannies in the store we enjoyed listening to the men discuss and debate in their English accents and we found some wonderful old books to treasure. We had been a little disappointed up to this point with our London experience in that we had met so few people who spoke English well with the English accents we so longed to hear. Most of the tourist areas, our hotel, shops, etc. were run by people from other countries like France, Italy, Lebanon, etc. They didn't speak English well and certainly didn't have the traditional English accent we had looked forward to hearing while in London. Upon purchasing our books, one of the men asked if I was from the south in America. From that point we had a wonderful conversation with these men. I could have stayed all day, I felt like I had found a place to truly experience London as it is everyday, not just the touristy areas. I highly recommend a trip to this bookstore to anyone who wishes to have a book lovers true English experience! read more
