The teachers are most likely paid half of what they should and put an amazing amount of effort into creating non-traditional curriculum that excites the kids. My 3rd grader is going on over 30 field trips this year and he has been on an over night camping trip that changed his life. He is learning so much and doesn't feel like he's on the receiving end of any academic pressure. The teachers are literally education ninjas. Will and Matt we love you so much!! I wish there were more than 5 stars.

Great facilities and equipment including outdoor gear and a second campus at the LaBarque conservation area. The adventure education experiences give students an unmatched sense of accomplishment in overcoming challenges of the outdoor, "real world" classroom. This prepared my kids to be leaders and face future challenges, both in education and in life, in a way that is just not possible with only teaching in the classroom. The outdoor classroom concept does amazing things. We love TCS!

Initially, the friendly demeanor of students during shadow days may seem genuine, but the reality is that most students dislike the school. The students essentially run the institution, leading to ineffective oversight by teachers and administrators. The educational quality was lacking; upon transferring to a better school, the difference in learning was stark--students were far ahead in their studies. Financially, attending Bishop DuBourg is not wise; they lower tuition rates to attract students due to declining enrollment. Teachers often cycle in and out frequently, with many being inexperienced and recent graduates. Only the honors classes provided quality instruction; students who are not academically strong might struggle, receiving a diluted curriculum that undermines their potential. For instance, hands-on science labs were virtually nonexistent, while math instruction failed to meet necessary standards, allowing late submissions for full credit. The English curriculum felt overly simplistic, as teachers guided students through every aspect of essay writing instead of fostering independent critical thinking. Even in culinary classes, the focus was on basic baking rather than more complex cooking skills. The one commendable aspect was the history program, yet parents often enroll their children for religious reasons, which can be misleading. The first year may provide some insight into faith, but the second year devolves into discussions that stray from educational value. Diversity exists but lacks celebration; observances like Black History Month are only recognized when students initiate them. Sports teams are generally lackluster, with a culture that prioritizes participation over competitiveness, resulting in poor performance across various sports. The child development program is minimal, merely using bags of flour to simulate infant care, while other schools provide real-life experiences. Field trips are limited, mainly available for academy students, whereas others engage in retreats that do not contribute meaningfully to educational growth. The environment is further compromised by issues of cleanliness, pest infestations, and rampant substance abuse among students. Bullying is prevalent and inadequately addressed, especially when the aggressor has special needs. Administrative issues create frustration, such as delays with academic transcripts, which compounded the dissatisfaction. Intruder drills and school policies create an overly restrictive atmosphere, making students feel confined. Engagement activities, such as "family time" and "flex time," detract from learning and are met with apathy. Disciplinary actions lack consistency, and there's a disturbing presence of unaddressed misconduct by teachers. Furthermore, there is little emphasis placed on real-world responsibilities or independence. Overall, the school fails to provide a supportive or enriching educational environment and does not facilitate meaningful learning or personal growth. Parents are urged to reconsider sending their children to Bishop DuBourg; there is a pressing need for change or a call for closure of the school altogether

I was pleased to be able to leave the project there, partially finished, rather than rush through the project during the workshop. When going back to complete a workshop project, you do not have to pay a studio fee since that was worked into the initial price. I was able to go and finish gluing my project, using as much of the tiles/stained glass/porcelain as I wanted. I then took home my project as well as grout and a small kit containing a cloth, cuts of newspaper, and a few others things to grout at home, although I could have returned to the studio a third time to do that there if I wanted. Many members of my family go as well and have all expressed the same gratitude for the opportunity to create something new in a comfortable place at our own pace. Project prices (walk-in or workshop) aren't cheap but neither are the materials they provide. Everything I've made there has held up well and they rotate available projects. If you're unsure about project costs or studio fees, ask them before you start. They can recommend projects within your budget and explain the studio fee. They're not out to price gouge, running an art studio with quality materials and trained staff isn't cheap. I typically spend $70 per mosaic project/workshop, if you're looking for a rough estimate. They also sell cute kits for small mosaic projects to do at home, which make a great gift. I highly recommend checking out Yucandu. (thanks Yucandu team!)

We had a free hour studio session and a $45 gift card and after only spending thirty minutes here we still owed $53, we only painted. If you do ceramic, mosaic or anything else it's a lot more.
