The menu is not that extensive but it has a reasonable variety of dishes to cater for most tastes. I had the calamari to start followed by the day fish special. Both tasted fine, but lacked pizzazz in the presentation department. In general, I thought the food was OK but not particularly outstanding; there are better Italian restaurants around. This place is family run and prides itself on that friendly atmosphere, so the service is cheery if rather laid back. I know we were waiting on other folk arriving, but we sat there for 45 minutes without anyone offering us so much as a glass of water. A wee aperitif would not have gone amiss.

It's tucked along Woodside Terrace and you'd be best off checking the map on Yelp before you head there, lest you head to completely the wrong place. No bother though, we found it eventually! It's a basement restaurant but it has a large windows at either end so it's not dark and dim like you might expect. I really like the decor - to me, it was like stepping back in time but in a tasteful, charming way. There's loads of photos all over the walls and you can tell it's had a lot of love put into it. I had a glass of rosé while looking over the menu which was really tasty - so tasty that I couldn't resist a second small glass with my main. For starters I had the caprese salad which was served with a whopping chunk of buffalo mozzarella. Everything was so fresh, light and tasty that it was totally perfect in its simplicity. I loved the generous slices of whopping huge tomato and even though the mozzarella was massive, it was a refreshing starter. For main I had the veal milanese with pasta. About 3 years ago (possibly more), Graeme had this dish at an Italian restaurant and I've had food envy ever since. I never forget food envy. Mine was served with penne napolitana but you could opt for a spicier spaghetti if you wanted. The veal was delicious, soft and buttery and the pasta was heavenly. I got a very generous dusting of parmesan (the way I like it). I did struggle to finish mine though (I had to save room for dessert). The tiramisu was wonderful, soft, fluffy, boozy and the lovely richness of coffee. I couldn't finish my portion but they happily put it in a ramekin for me to take home - so lovely. The bill was pretty pricey - around £40 per person, but then that was for a 3 course meal with drinks so it's actually not too bad. My favourite thing about here (apart from the food) was definitely the service. The staff are so lovely and welcoming that you really do feel like you're part of their family. Nothing was too much trouble or difficult for them, and we got really mouthwatering descriptions of the menu from the Don himself. He would pop out from the kitchen every now and then to see how we were doing, and made sure he came by to say goodbye as he had to be up early for the fishmarket in the morning. I started out with a mixed salad, it had chopped greens, a layer of tomatoes, red onions and drizzled with balsamic vinegar, not only was this mixed salad good looking it was great tasting too! For the main meal I went with Pollo Birra & Carciofi, which was pan roasted chicken breast with red onions, rosemary and artichokes in a sauce made from Italian handcrafted beer. Oh my! The chicken was so tender and good, the flavors of everything blended well, before I knew my meal was gone. I knew since I was indulging I needed to keep it moving and dive into dessert, after checking out the yummy menu I went with the Tronchetto Al Cioccolato- it was an Sicilian style chocolate cake, rolled together with Italia Amaretti & cookies served with nocciolate ice cream, oh sweet bliss! Located just off the Finnieston strip next to Ox & Finch, we actually tried going here last year but for some reason they were closed on a Saturday night so we went to Mother India instead. A group of 5 of us visited for dinner last night. The restaurant is pretty small actually but not pokey - no one was seated right beside us and the music gives it a good atmosphere so you don't feel like people are listening to your conversation. The menu is really impressive - I pretty much wanted to eat every single dish. As Rocco G says, it's not your usual Italian dishes on the menu and you can be a little more adventurous here (although there is a section of traditional Italian dishes which are more common in the UK like bolognese, carbonara, lasagne). There's lots of eggplant/aubergine (drool) and loads of delicious-sounding seafood, as well as nod to Scottish folk with a chicken breast stuffed with haggis. There's even a good range of vegetarian dishes. I went for the scallops to start (£9.95) which were beautifully plump (is there any other way to describe a good scallop), served in a lovely tangy Aurum liqueur sauce. For the price I thought 3 scallops was very reasonable, and really enjoyed how perfectly they were cooked. For main I couldn't go past the gnocchi with king prawns in a white wine sauce (£11.95). It was a huge portion (too large, if I'm honest) but overall a really wonderful dish packed with flavour but not smothered in sauce, and really letting the puffs of gnocchi shine. There was one main large prawn (in the shell) and then smaller prawns scattered around the dish - again, for the price I thought this was really good value. I even went for dessert (something I rarely do) as I quite fancied the tiramisu (I think around £5). Again, great sized portion, lovely presentation and had a nice boozy/coffee kick to it. I couldn't eat it all so they happily popped it in a container for me to take home (guess what I'm having for lunch today?!). Service was great - we were looked after by two staff members who were both friendly and helpful. There was a mix up with the mains as one of our party didn't receive his, and they only realised as they were bringing out our dishes. I thought the way it was handled was really nice - they offered him some bread while he waited, and then took his dessert off the bill to say sorry. I returned to Panevino as part of a large group for a surprise birthday party. They were extremely…read moreaccommodating in letting us monopolise most of the upstairs area on a Friday night, when normally they restrict reservations on Fridays and Saturdays to 6 people or less. My first time upstairs, and I was surprised to find that it's not any roomier than the downstairs. It's basically a long narrow mezzanine that could only take 4 or 5 tables comfortably, and you have to share the area with the doors to the toilets and staff storeroom. The general lack of space in this restaurant is the only thing preventing me from giving it the full 5 stars, as I can't fault the food or the service at all. I'd give it 4 and 3/4 stars if I could. For starters, I had mussels from the specials menu, which were marinated in a slightly piquant sauce and came with a wee bit of garlic bread. Just yummy. I was very intrigued by what appeared to be a large mint in a wee eggcup that came with the 'empties' bowl, until a water arrived and poured a small jug of hot water into it, whereupon it expanded into a hot towel to wash your hands with afterwards. How cool is that? For mains, I again chose from the specials menu, with squid ink tortellini stuffed with lobster, topped with more mussels, king prawns and garlic (you can tell there's a bit of a seafood theme here). I liked the way that the prawns had been half-peeled in advance, so you could easily extract the meat without having to dig in with your fingers, and the tortellini was perfectly cooked. It was the most expensive thing on the specials menu, but it did justify the price as it was really tasty. Plus I got another wee expanding towel thingy to be impressed by. As this was an organised birthday bash, the waiters had been previously consulted about wine choices so that was all laid on when we arrived, including some lovely proscecco to start us off and get everyone in the mood. We had 2 or 3 wine aficionados in the group and everyone was very complimentary about the wine choices, so that's a good tip if you're in a similar situation in future. Dessert was skipped as there was a birthday cake (of course), presented with great panache by the owner, complete with candles and 'happy birthday' playing on the sound system. A nice touch and a fitting conclusion to the evening. I have to say I really like this place, and I would like it even more if it was just a teensy bit less cosy.

All was delicious and flavorful. The salad was beautiful - everything you would want in a salad. I would have liked more cheese on my dish, but it was good. The pasta was also al dente - something I'm not accustomed to, but it was good and freshly made. Service was excellent. We were seated quickly and servers were attentive. It was a noisy place - very busy - but with a good vibe. We were seated near the kitchen so we could watch the chefs. One gentleman ran his ungloved hand through his hair, put the hat back on and then proceeded to grab a ball of fresh noodles and drop them in the water. The gloved hand wasn't used. I don't know what to think, but not very sanitary, but then nothing the boiling water wouldn't take care of either. ;) The cook staff were constantly busy and were not standing around. The system worked well and our meal was served quickly. A good thing when you're hungry. I would recommend Sugo to spice up your visit in Glasgow.

This little takeaway literally popped up near my flat out of nowhere. Now I have to walk past a delicious pizza place every darn day and somehow try and stop myself from entering! This is going to be a real test of grit seeing as Lamora's pizzas are mighty fine. One of the key things about a good pizza (I reckon) is the dough and their dough is wonderfully soft and light, but with a slight crisp, just how I like it. They have a wide range of good quality toppings and even do my favourite pizza which consists of Tuna and onion. It may sound wrong but it's a total Italian classic, showing that these guys know their stuff. If pizza's not your thing (amazingly there are plenty of people who are averse to it, shock horror!), Lamora have daily soup specials, pastas and focaccias. I've tried their minestrone and it was really hearty, flavorsome and rammed full of delicious vegetables. This along with a garlic and rosemary focaccia for £5.50 this is a meal not to be sniffed at. Simply great value for money. Lamora is a wee breath of fresh air in this part of Charing Cross. Being the only real takeaway in the area it serves up fine pizzas from lunchtime until late and has a very cool and fresh vibe that means it would not look out of place in a hipster area like Finnieston. Although predominantly a takeaway, there are a good 4 or 5 tables which means you can sit in if you like. Most pizzas are priced around the £8 mark which again is excellent value considering the size and quality. This is definitely my favourite pizza takeaway in Glasgow and I'm pretty chuffed to have it soo nearby!

The place is spotless, the counter is designed for these 3am weekend rushes, the staff are diligent and friendly, and the system is efficient. On top of all of that, their chips and cheese is heavenly. None of those common fast-food rumours of post-drunken food poisoning flying around here. Brilliant.

Woah. Since that day I have always returned to Diablero (even though I always call it Diablo, haha) for my nocturnal snackage. I've also tried their pizzas & if you like your pizza with quite a lot of garlic (I do) then try these pizzas! They're not going to be THE BEST pizza ever but for a place like this they're pretty darn good. Diablero will forever be the devil on my shoulder when I'm in Sauchiehall Street late at night & hungry. (DEVIL - geddit?! Muhahahahaa! *groan*)
