As soon as she was finished she gave all her attention to us. Talk about first class service, she took the time to show us everything in the store and to answer any questions we had. The packaging is beautiful. My son is a huge dark chocolate lover so I let him choose whatever he wanted. I dropped some serious cash here $$$. Lol. I actually have a section in my fridge where it is all dedicated to nothing but chocolates. I hope my family and friends will enjoy these delectable sweet morsels.

In addition to having single-origin chocolate from Ecuador, they've got some other bars. Since it was late and we were tired, we purchased a sampling and verified that they'd be open the next day. We tried the chocolate and decided to go back and get more to give as gifts -- the kids are also appreciators of craft chocolate. I bought a bag of candied ginger, coated in dark chocolate. It may sound weird, but it is amazing! My wife liked a bar that had orange filling. The combination of dark chocolate and orange is definitely a favorite in our house. The chocolate is not too sweet and the São Tomé bar I purchased reminds me a bit of coffee -- so a mocha flavor just from the beans, sugar and vanilla.

I swung by this gorgeous little coffee and chocolate cafe on a Thursday evening and decided to sample both temperature extremes with their small hot chocolate and small chocolate sorbet. The sorbet was outstanding and truly worth all the hype -- I genuinely don't understand how they could possibly create something so creamy and rich without any milk, but they somehow made it work. On the other end (and probably more season-appropriate), the hot chocolate was equally amazing. It was remarkably rich, and not overly sweet. It is really thick, though, and has a pretty high proportion of cacao, so it is a bit challenging to drink a large amount. I was glad I had opted for the small size, which was perfect for sipping as I snuggled into one of their shop's four seats to read for an hour or two. They also have a ton of specialty chocolates that I will have to check out during my next visit! They all seem delightful, but I was a bit chocolate-d out at that point. The shop was super cozy to hang in for a bit, and the staff is super friendly. There, unfortunately, isn't a ton of space or seating, and the shop is quite popular, so you definitely have to get lucky or be super strategic about when you swing by if you want to stay for a while.

In honor of my lucky 13th Yelp Elite badge (but who is counting?) I'd like to ring in the new year…read morewith one of the sweetest topics: chocolate. My friend J and I took a roadtrip once, and developed a not-so-unique tradition of buying chocolate in every city we visited and then having it as a treat after dinner every night in the Airbnbs we stayed in. As an homage to J, I continued to do this on all of my travels in the years following. During my stay in Lisbon, I happened to see a short queue outside this chocolate shop as I walked through the neighborhood, and then my eyes perked when I saw the sign declaring vegan hot chocolate. I stood in the very COVID-safe line (everyone was masked, and the chocolate shop had hand sanitizer set out front) for my chocolate. Reader: I went back three days in a row. This is some of the best chocolate I've ever had in my travels. The tiny vegan hot chocolate was the perfect size, and just sweet enough to feel like a treat but not too sweet. The staff was kind, and carefully pointed out which chocolate bars did not contain dairy once I informed them of my lactose intolerance. Some favorites: the ginger felt decadent, the hazelnut oh my gosh the hazelnut, with big hazelnut chunks and the smoothest chocolate ever. The Pimenta e flor de sal was epic as well. All of the chocolate is made fresh, and if you have the willpower not to eat it all on the spot, they will package everything in front of you, with perfect little stickers and bags to identify which chocolate is which. There was something special in texting J about the chocolate, and for him to ask if they ship, and for me to say no, that he would have to come to Lisbon to try this special place. Another tip: if you take your little cup of hot chocolate across the street, there is a nice lookout point and you can enjoy the chocolate on a bench in the plaza. Happy new year!

We didn't want just the novelty stuff on a stick, either. No, we wanted real ice cream, the kind someone dishes into a cone or cup for you. AHHHH!!! We came around a corner and saw a plush ice cream cone hanging out front of this little shop, so we ventured inside. Talk about kismet! Not only was there ice cream, but sorbet, too. I opted for a cup of hazelnut and dark chocolate paired together. My wife got the same dark chocolate, but with a nice coconut. The place was empty, save for the very nice young woman who served us, but soon it was full. Maybe we started a trend, maybe some passersby saw us and thought they might like some ice cream, too, I don't know. But, here's the other side of the coin, and it's not a downside. The shop has much more than just ice cream. Did you notice the "sardinha" in the name? There are many tins of sardines available for purchase, too. And tea. And wine. And olive oil. And olive paste. And flavored vinegars. And Sal de mer. This little shop, and it is not a very big space, although there was just enough space for the four of us to sit and enjoy our ice cream and the light breeze coming off the water just across the street, has a lot of stuff in it. We found that elusive present for one of our neighbors right in this shop - in fact two presents! The prices are good, the place is spotless, the young woman who served us was pleasant and helpful - this was a gem in an already great city!

That is exactly the "good" problem Landeau has as besides their famous chocolate cake, all they have are beverages, inadvertently making their sign outside with the proclamation "When in doubt, try chocolate cake!" kind of hilarious. Once you've huffed and puffed your way up one of Lisbon's stairmaster hills, the darkened and vintage feeling interior of this particular Landeau feels very welcome. Although there is ample seating for the size of this store, the ample line of people waiting to get in from the outside might make getting a seat difficult nonetheless. I do like the regular lattes here but let's face it, any beverage you get here is really meant to be a sidekick to the main star of the show, Landeau's famous chocolate cake. And it is indeed, the best slice of chocolate cake you'll ever have, and that is not hyperbole. Layered and textured, but pillowy and light, it's really difficult to describe what a beautiful heavenly experience eating a chocolate cake at Landeau is. It's like treating your mouth to the most sumptuous and comforting experience it's ever going to have when eating something and you never want to end. And for under 5 euros, it almost feels like a steal. I really do consider going to a Landeau one of the highlights of my trip to Lisbon and urge everyone to put it on their must eats here. Even yes, over the egg tarts.
