I live in one of the independent buildings and more often then not, we have no hot water. I usually wake up around 2-3am to shower to get some mildly warm, not hot, water. I have complained to management but always get the same answer, "we are working on it". My family is looking to move me as soon as we can find a place. Management should be ashamed, we are all older people living here and pay quite a lot of money, money which includes meals. The food is not good, it is cold and often they don't order enough to give all what we ordered. We have spoken to the chef and the Director, both seem to do nothing. Winnwood Retirement Community is really a community with support and concern expressed in a variety of ways. The campus is beautiful! There are a few things prospective residents need to be aware of. The smell of cigarettes is pervasive throughout the campus--in the dining area, near the entrances of buildings, and sometimes in the parking lot. The smell permeates clothing and affects my breathing. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful. Dinner is inconsistent in quality and in portion size. Dinners are tasty about 80% of the time; sometimes portions are small. The grand piano is beautiful, and I played it often for several weeks last summer. However, the action of the keys is so stiff that my shoulders could not tolerate the physical challenge of playing that piano as it is right now. If the cigarette issue were resolved, dinners were consistently tasty, and the piano were adjusted so that it's playable, I could give Winnwood an unequivocal 5! I can heartily recommend almost all of the people here. It's a pleasant place to live!

They accept dogs..not sure about cats, but I would ask if that were important to me, it's not unlikely they'd allow them in the apartments. I know one man that has lived there happily for over 15 years. They also have vendors come in almost every day. They have Taco and margaritas every Tuesday. There a pet rescue that comes in regularly to just allow some love for both the homeless pets and the residents. Overall, I'd recommend, especially if you have your own generator for emergencies.

Ms. Larrier was very professional and her empathy towards her patients health issues was amazing. Yes!! I'm a 40+ woman who's body is in worst shape than some of these vibrant, full of life seniors I had to hop pass trying to find my way to the pool area. Yes! I said hop.... Geesh! go figure. Heck they where looking at me as though they wanted to ask if they could help me. Unfortunately today was just a medical visit. While hopping around (LOL!) I did noticed how elegant and huge the Sterlings Estate is. It has a very welcoming entrance with whom I believe maybe a concierge to help you with what your looking for or answer any questions you may have. Today was a nice gentleman standing in waiting. Again looking at me like..... he was waiting for me ask to be pointed in the direction of my grandmother or something. NOPE!!!! He was polite with telling me the way to my destination. The Sterlings has a grand dining area with plenty of seating. I noticed also they have what looked like a coffee area, wellness center and plenty more activities for the seniors in your life to enjoy. I'm here today to get the full benefits of their heated salt water pool. The Sterlings offer Aqua therapy for people who don't live on campus. My health insurance had them on the list of places to choose from. I chose The Sterling Estates, because I have driven pass about 4 times and thought to myself.... Those look like a nice community for my mom or great aunt to live. Not knowing I will be the one visiting before them. But a least I had the pleasure of seeing what little of the community I could see. And I can say it was a memorable one.

Not the case at this point. The actual facility certainly needs a face lift. There are no automatic doors to the interior garden and patio area. Thus, if you are in a wheelchair you are not going out without help. If you decide to dine in your room, your meal is brought to you in a styrofoam box at the end of the meal service in the dining room. So you are going to get your meal an hour later. Oh great, almost in time for you to go for the next meal. I will not go on. Most of the residents are happy there. But, let's be real. Change is hard enough who is going to move again?

It would be difficult to find a place with higher standards - Atherton Place is simply the best of the best. We confirmed this after having to transition to three different facilities in 2021. My experience with this facility and with this organization was outstanding...far better than I expected from any progressive living situation for my mom. I found the physical environment, the administration, and (most importantly!) the staff to be of the highest caliber. Staff clearly were treated very well by the management group, as there was very little staff turnover during my mom's tenure there. Candidly, my mom had the assets to allow her to live anywhere, but I never found another facility in the greater Atlanta area that so thoroughly and consistently delivered what their residents needed, even during Covid. PLEASE read the many five-star reviews included in "other reviews that are not recommended" below. Why are these excluded from the overall rating?

The attitudes of some people here are ridiculous. Residents are sweet but the managemt overrules the good things. You also make $10 an hour and even after you take the CMA class for what they tell you is free, you have to pay $300 if you leave before a year is up. You do way too much for the pay, 5 different job titles for one pay.

I developed an open wound bleeding bedsore that I am still dealing with. They are supposed to have a wound specialist who you rarely saw and the wound was not treated. Inexcusable. The CNA's are attentive except sometimes on the weekend where there is a severe lack of staff. Patients need an independent advocate every day to look after them.

My mom, my uncle, and I have all expressed our concerns to management, who have done nothing to make this better. I want others to be aware of the conditions that Elmcroft thinks are acceptable before they choose to move their loved one in. I don't want anyone to regret it the way that we do.
