I recently experienced an extremely frustrating situation with Arapahoe Credit Union that I feel compelled to share as a warning to others. Their overdraft fee policy is not only unfair but borders on predatory. Here's what happened: Venmo attempted to pull a payment from an incorrect account with my credit union - an account that didn't have any funds in it. Instead of simply processing this as a declined transaction (which would be the logical response to a request for money from an empty account), the credit union "returned the payment" and then charged me an overdraft/returned item fee for this rejection. To be clear: this was an empty account that Venmo mistakenly tried to use. The credit union didn't advance any funds or cover any shortage - they literally just said "no" to the transaction, as they should have. Yet they still charged me a fee for this! To make matters worse, this rejection caused Venmo to assess their own returned payment fees against me as well, resulting in double charges for a transaction that never even happened. This practice feels deliberately designed to extract maximum fees while providing minimum service. The credit union didn't front any money or take any risk - they simply declined a transaction from an empty account, which costs them virtually nothing to do and is exactly what should happen with an account that has no funds. What's particularly frustrating is the lack of transparency. Many members don't realize that credit unions can charge these fees even when they don't actually cover any payment and even when the attempt was made to the wrong account. It's essentially a "fee for saying no" rather than a fee for a service provided. I strongly urge Arapahoe Credit Union to reconsider this policy. A financial institution that claims to be member-focused should not be profiting from declined transactions that cost them nothing to process, especially when the transaction was attempted against the wrong account. At minimum, they should waive fees in situations where payment attempts are clearly errors. For anyone considering this credit union, be extremely careful about which accounts are linked to payment services, and understand that you can be charged significant fees even when no money is advanced on your behalf and even when the transaction is attempted against the wrong account. read more

Andre did an excellent job helping me refinance my car loan. Unbeknownst to me, the dealer I purchased my car through ran me through a system called cudle that sky rocketed my interest to 3.7%more than I should have been paying. Andre was able to get me approved for less than half the interest than I was paying. He was thorough, patient and worked with me to get the results I needed. Problem the worst credit unions I have ever worked with. They were charging me fees during my auto without calling me or emailing me. Especially after I moved saying they mailed me documents. I provided documents they requested which was proof of insurance. They said they would refund me which never happened. I have been now going back and forth with them then I checked again on my auto loan which I found out they were charging me fees again even though I ALREADY GAVE THEM the information.. read more

My entire experience with ACU was unpleasant. Starting with the auto loan manager who is NOT at all professional and spoke to me way too casually. Left derogatory notes on my account and as a result I wasn't allowed to have a debit card. Just wondering if any other women out there had a similar experience. He is super creepy and the Branch Manager let's him get away with this! I also work for a not-for-profit and No One at my employment from Owners to new employees behave like Matt did. I came to Arapahoe Credit Union because they had the best auto loan rates for what I wanted. I ended up opening an account with them before the loan was even approved, because of my experience during that first visit. I worked with Cynthia and Brenda on getting the auto loan approved and finalized through the car dealership. They both went above and beyond to help me as the dealership was making things a bit more difficult than needed. This institution is ridiculous. Their app never works as it is supposed to. you need 2 different passwords to access things. it is to complicated. Tried to make a electronic deposit with a check from my regular bank, scanned it 4 times and it never did deposit it. I just kept getting a "Oops something went wrong." finally gave up. When you do call, no one can give you a straight answer. It doesn't seem that they talk to one another nor take the proper notes on your account. One day I spoke with 4 different representatives and received 4 different answers for the same problem. Very frustrating to say the least. I would not ever send anyone to them for anything. I will be refinancing my vehicle as soon as possible. The hassle is just not worth it. read more

They had to ask me some questions, they were asking me questions about places I never lived at, so they would not give me the account number to set up online payments. After 35 years as a member, I am no longer to do business with the credit union. We attempted to log in and update our account using the new system, but it was not possible without contacting a person for technical support. After being told that we did not have a sufficient connection (which was not true) and I did not understand (which was not true), we had to reveal both our log in and password to the person "helping" us, we were able to log in. The following day, I moved most of our money from our credit union account to our bank, where we have no difficulty accessing our accounts. read more

I have always been a credit union member since I was 16 years old. I joined ACU in 2007 and have been able to get both of my cars financed there as well as my home and a credit card. They are always so friendly and helpful. The bill pay system has to be my favorite piece. The e-bill feature actually receives my bill, knows how much I owe and sends a payment without me having to do anything. Such a relief to know I don't have to worry about due dates and late fees. And it files my bill and keeps it for me so I can eliminate all of the paper each month. I would recommend this place to anyone. I know they only have two locations but I use the service center feature if I'm not close so I don't have to worry about making a special trip to one of their branches. read more

I have been a member of this Credit Union for almost 30 years. All My adult children are also members. Up until recently I have been happy. My happiness with them however has declined tremendously. I work for a physician who hand writes her payroll checks, as she is old school. I have been working for her for 2 years. Arapahoe Credit Union has put a hold on a portion of my paycheck for 2 days and then they release the rest? With a long weekend holiday such as Thanksgiving the rest of my check did not clear until the following Monday, with this being said I had to wait an extra weekend and weekday to get the rest of my funds available. This is such a horrible thing to do is to hold a persons paycheck. I no longer value them and will be moving all my accounts else ware. I can't even get a call back from the branch manager to express my frustration. read more

Don't use this bank for a loan unless you are desperate. If you do, keep track of what they charge you. Three separate times the bank charged me for not having insurance on our camper. This place has been fantastic. I actually can transfer money externally, you just have to confirm you account to activate this feature online. I have no complaints about them, and they are always friendly and thorough. I trust them with my money. :) What really stands out about this branch is the outstanding customer service. Not only are guests promptly greeted with a smile but the employees here engage their customers in conversation. It's a very nice personal touch. The tellers and service staff are efficient on everything down to notary services. I always get great service when I go in, and the interest rate I got for my car loan was the best rate I could find after researching several options. I do hope they open more locations at some point. I highly recommend this branch for banking. read more
