My fiancé ordered the Mexican wrap, while I got the chicken fillet roll. Both were simply prepared and tasty enough to sate us. The focus here is definitely not the deli, let's be honest. If you're going to Tess's, you need to pick up a few baked goods! After some deliberation, I decided to behave myself and just order one scone. It was good. Not the best I've had, but it was a decent size and not dry. There are so many options here, there's no way you could experience it all in one trip! Lemon cake, soda breads, apple tarts, muffins... it's a carb lover's delight. It's not a sit-down place, so keep that in mind. Also, they don't take cards. This is a hassle when you're a tourist, and the bakery IS in a tourist area with the castle nearby. Luckily, there is an ATM just down the road at the bank.

The service was good as the person waiting on me was polite and efficient. There were all kinds of great options, including chocolate pretzels, pizza pretzels and other bakery treats. I did not want anything heavy, so I tried a couple of small salt pretzels with my coffee. They were quite tasty and the coffee provided a satisfying caffeine fix. The fact that it was such an unusual treat added to the enjoyment. The price was less than €4 for this treat. If I make it back to Kilkenny, I will look forward to returning to this fine little shop.

The owners are nice and friendly. They have a good wine selection and you can even bottle your own from the casket if you wish. I find the wine over priced so not a win here I'm afraid. It is difficult to find parking and it can be crazy at certain hours like breakfast lunch etc so I avoid these times. I'm putting an addition as this summer all prices went up 20 percent. When I asked staff about it they justified it by saying they had no increases in a few year's. When I mentioned the worst recession in history they were dismissive. This does not impress me. You're still sitting in a deli it's not a restaurant yet it is more expensive than one and no waiters.

Service is amazing, and a real community feel brought about by the shared communal tables. Some really interesting foodie finds too - like how you can bring your own wine bottle and fill it up from the wine barrels full of lovely easy drinking French wine at significantly less cost that bottled!
