Spain, you're killing me. Yelp friends, you're killing me. Reviews for restaurants in Spain are consistently erratic .. it's almost impossible to book based on Top Ten recommendations and actually enjoy your meal for what it's been rated to be.
Aragona is NOT a Top Ten restaurant. Not even Top 100, in our opinion. There's absolutely nothing that stands out to make it so.
Showed up at opening with a reservation; group of 7. Chef's welcome offering is some flat bread with truffle oil and salami. Here's the blow by blow:
- Worst bottle of Cannanau ever. We're very fond of the Sardinian red and this was just terrible - overly sweet and spicy, very not like any other bottle we've had.
- Bruschetta is the "in the oven with cheese" variety
- Caprese was a ball of mozzarella and some halved cherry tomatoes
- Bread was uninspiring carbs
Now, here is where you mock me .. I always say the pomodoro sauce says it all. Here is the one instance the tomato has proven me wrong -- the kids all had plain pomodoro with pasta and it was fab. The rest of us were completely unimpressed with our meals (amatriciana, clams and asparagus).
This restaurant's reviews are completely inflated. After dinner we walked the area and saw other Italian restaurants that had much nicer ambience. read more
