I believe going to school is where you actually get a glimpse of what life is all about. Aside from…read morethe education that it offers, friendship is where it is established during your school days. My Elementary and High School days were a roller coaster ride of new discoveries. La Salle Green Hills was the training ground for me for what I've become today. Yes this school is expensive but it's not just the price of the tuition fee that matters here but the quality of education and the experience you will have. Most of the friends that I still have up to now are my friends from high school and the amount of shared life experiences we had back then is just priceless. La Salle Green Hills has remained the only all boys school in all La Salle schools in the metro so imagine the amount of testosterone during our Intramurals. If you have the budget to send your kids here, I assure you it will all be worth it.
If you have ever frequented local parenting forums about schools, then you likely already know that…read moreDiliman Preparatory School has a strong emphasis on academics. Some parents have even complained the the curriculum tends to be too rigid, but in my opinion, it's just a matter of fit. There are some kids who thrive better in learning environments that are flexible and less structured, while there are kids who do better when given more rigorous lessons. I'm only familiar with Diliman Prep's Preschool and elementary programs so I can't speak for their high school levels. The preschool incorporates the Doman gentle revolution system and Singapore science and math. At this early stage, the preschoolers are already taught the fundamental computer programs in MS Office, in preparation for the elementary level's Robotics curricula. Once your child is promoted to the first grade, you have the option to enroll him in the Space Science program, which is entirely separate for the regular school curriculum. You might want to wait until the 2nd grade or even later to do this though, just to give your child a chance to first adjust to the greater demands of the elementary school before adding to his academic load.

More than half of my life was spent in this school--kindergarten, grade school, and high school…read more While I pretty much dropped the whole Catholic institution as soon as I graduated, I look back on the rest of my education with gratefulness, sentimentality, and affection. What distinguishes St. Paul from other schools is its determination to bring up well-rounded girls. Yes, the importance of academics is highlighted, but in all my years there, our teachers and headmistresses never failed to remind us that art and culture are important too. Off-campus broadway shows and other cultural immersions were the norm, and in retrospect we were so fortunate to have been exposed to those things growing up. Music appreciation is also incredibly prevalent in the school. While other schools have one alma mater song, we had AT LEAST five. That's not including Marian songs we'd sing all throughout the month of October. Often, the morning rites included a religious song taught to us by experienced music teachers who had so much passion for teaching their chosen subject. Having been part of the choir for three years in high school, I had the pleasure of being under the tutelage of conductress Mrs, Sheila Fetalvero. Fondly called Mommy B, she was the mother hen to the MAC (Music Appreciaton Club) Choir. The club is called differently now, but in many choral and glee club circles, it's so prominent that it's still referred to as MAC to this day. St. Paul may not agree with all my religious beliefs, but it was an excellent place to grow up. I would be happy to send my own children there.

This school boasts for a lot of things, it has great facilities, great programs both academic and extra-curricular, and has an advanced curriculum compared to other schools. It's also internationally accredited by WASC or the Western Accreditation for Schools and Colleges and has continuously received only the top honors from PAASCU. Everything about this place claims excellence but from experience I've seen it's mostly just talk. The facilities here are great and the extra curricular program is top notch but it's the academic offerings that have caused trouble now that I'm in college. Frankly the whole "advanced" curriculum did nothing to help my friends and I in college, it did nothing to boost the number of passers into different colleges and did nothing to help us get higher grades either. The advancement certainly did not deliver the results we were all expecting. But aside from that the teachers and staff at this school are great and really good at what they do.

There are two reasons why you're looking at an elementary school review: looking for a job opening,…read moreor looking for a school for a child (yours or otherwise). If you're a job-hunter, look away since this isn't about the experience as an employee. But if you're interested in Mayfield Montessori Academy as a prospective client, then you may find this brief review just what you may need. PROS: small class size with a maximum of around 20 per class; legitimate Montessori approach, especially with its flagship classes, the kindergarten department; an intimate and involved community of students, teachers, parents, and staff; Not outrageously expensive as far as Montessori and private schools go; inclusive and non-sectarian CONS: elementary and middle school department is done with a mostly traditional approach, except for a couple of Montessori subjects; limited facilities and space; classes up to Grade 10 only at present; no student ranking. If you want an honor-student kid, tough luck on that; lots of homework TL;DR: Not a fan of big, traditional, status-symbol schools? Need a place for a kid you know that won't learn best in a 40+ student classroom? Go and give this one an ocular inspection and call for inquiries.

Not a great location traffic wise, it is rush hour going to school and going back home. Anyone can bring basically anything, from takis to cheetos to nerds to juice and even Jollibee and McDonald's, they let us order food for our birthday parties (We have to reserve a slot and we only have parties every friday) We also have another type of homework that's called datafiles, whatever we are supposed to write on our datafile is listed in our Quarterly Work Plan (QWP) and is graded. We also have Montessori materials like the long bead frame (basically an Abacus but for multiplication), division test tubes (there are 3 sections that have 10 test tubes that have 10 beads each) with 7 cups. Since this is the Philippines if your final subject grade is below 75 at the end of the year you either will be asked to switch schools, have to take summer classes, repeat the year/subject, or get expelled. Five stars.

This was the only school I attended that was co-ed and after that I got transferred to an all-boys school. The school had a faculty mostly composed of nuns so imagine how strict they were. The school grounds are big enough to hold programs and a sports fest. The rooms are well ventilated and not overcrowded. The school cafeteria offers an array of delicious meals for the students. I remember always buying Siopao here for recess. I have yet to visit this school once again and reminisce the good old days.

I'm a proud graduate of this school and I must say that I owe a lot of what I am now to my beloved Alma Mater. LSM provided me with the holistic development that every young gentleman deserves. I am a proud alumnus of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, but in this review, I won't be talking about how my school molded me into becoming a bearer of peace and goodwill to all men. I am here to talk about the school's facilities, which actually makes it a conducive place for learning. All classrooms in this school (both primary and secondary) are air conditioned. One classroom has an estimated maximimum capacity of 40 people. They also have computer and science laboratories for effective learning. For physical education classes, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong has two gymnasiums that could easily accommodate more than 150 people. They also have a swimming pool and a huge football field for annual sporting events. They also have a huge theatre for film viewing and awarding ceremonies. Parents should consider this if they are looking for a school that can provide quality education and holistic formation for their sons. PS: You can rent their swimming pool/ gymnasiums every weekends

They only admit 100 kindergarten students on which 60% are children of UP faculty/staff, and they have to go through an entrance examination and interview. Plus, graduating high school here is not an assurance that they'd get in UP as college students. PROS: No tuition fees plus quality education. Need I say more?; They have some of the best elementary school teachers I've seen and known. A number of my professors even worked in UPIS while taking their masters and PHD's. They're my inspiration in improving my craft as a teacher for young children; If you're a faculty of UPIS, you don't have to pay for your post-grad education in UP. Free tuition, aw yeah!; The kids may be a bit rowdy at times, but they're so adorable! And smart, too. CONS: Class sizes are too big for my liking; It would be awesome if UPIS would integrate special needs children in their classroom. The future is in inclusivity and they should be leading the way; It's not completely free as you have to pay for their modules. TL;DR: UPIS K-2 has quality and affordable education that a lot of people may want to consider for their children.

I should know about the quality of education and attention that the tutors give to the students here at Tutoring Club, since I used to also tutor here (so this review might actually be a bit partial towards them). The system in place at Tutoring Club first assesses the current skill level of the student, and then they customize a schedule that will bring the student up to the necessary skill level. They have work books and work sheets that will really test the thinking capabilities of the student. Tutoring Club offers its services for Math, Writing and Reading, but students can also avail of private tutoring called "Tutor Up". This is a more customized service that will really cater to the student's needs, whether it's with science homework or writing and essay for English class. Not only do they handle elementary and high school students, but during the summer, pre-school students also come in and are taught how to speak and read English, and also practice basic Mathematics. I really enjoyed my time tutoring at this place, because of the quality of service they give to the students. I'm sure that each branch will have their own specialty, but Tutoring Club Greenhills will always be the benchmark for quality tutors.

It's my alma matter too, so shout-out to everyone who always had to walk by the urine-smelling back side of this gargantuan mall just to get to our gates. We all know how it feels, even the trike drivers. PROS: It's a science high school, so there's an extra focus on the math, science, and technology curriculum. If your kid's strengths lean on these particular fields, and you'd like free tuition (plus the P500.00 or so plus in fees) for the next few years, then give Kisay a try; Academics are given serious focus on this school. Unlike the regular curriculum, students need to maintain an average of 85 on all subjects to stay in Kisay, so you know everyone focuses on their studies. Plus, a myriad of extra-curricular activities help develop well-roundedness and leadership skills. CONS: There's an entrance exam that a prospective Xientian (Yup. That's what we call ourselves.) has to pass in order to gain a slot in this school. And that competition is fierce. We're talking about kids who took Pisay exams too, plus the now-majority of students coming from big, rich schools who are backed up with every tutorial and review center their young 12-year-old minds can take. Talk about "needy" and "underprivileged;" Being a government-run school, the issues of administrative corruption and faulty facilities are predominant, even for a science high school. TL;DR: In the end, it's still a public school. But with the help of PTA and alumni donations, and a sincerely eager learning atmosphere from the faculty and students, Kisay still somehow fares well.

During a period of observations and field work at Silahis ng Kalusugan (School for the Chronically Ill) located inside the Philippine General Hospital Pediatrics Ward, I've learned a handful about dealing with kids who may or may not have time remaining for them in this world. PROS: The idea itself of a school providing education for kids who may not even have the strength to leave their beds is impressive. Does the curriculum, instruction, and content differ from regular schools? Not really, but they apply alternative education mostly because absences are frequent, and the linear and single grade system that work for regular schools don't apply. They take a modular approach where once they finish particular content ("modules"), they move on to the next level. They don't group classes by age level, but by how far he or she is on the module; These kids are a noisy, lively, rowdy bunch and you can't help but be infected by their enthusiasm. While some of these children aren't with us anymore, some are applying for college already. Happy tears. CONS: The state of the school is reflective of PGH and other state hospitals - in dire need of renovations, additional space, and facilities. You just have to hand it to the parents, faculty, administrators, and students for their dedication to getting good education. TL;DR: Silahis ng Kalusugan is this place full of happy children that I had the good fortune of visiting and getting to know. It's a good place to visit or even frequent as a volunteer. PRO TIP: Interested in volunteering but you're worried that you can't teach? These kids love PARTIES! Throw a Jollibee/Mcdo party and the teachers will be glad to help with suggestions of fun and safe games they could play (Pinoy Henyo is always a hit), and make sure you prep in advance for possible allergies or exam schedules.
