I was showing some skin, which is not my normal, so I was feeling insecure as it was. Immediately, I was getting nasty looks from one of the cashiers. I brushed it off my shoulders and went to get my alcohol. I was shocked to see my normal liquor of choice (Ketel One) was significantly overpriced. To my dismay, I ended up buying something cheaper. I went with one of my friends to check out. It happened to be the cashier that had previously given me a dirty look for my sluttery. She, in a very nasty tone, said she needed to see the ID of our other friend. I told her that she would be making a purchase as well and would be at the cash register soon. It was just a tense situation and it was not friendly service in anyway. She checked my ID (I'm 25) and my friend's ID (she was 23). I finish with the purchase and other friend arrives to check out. When the clerk looks at my friend's ID, she tells us it's not a valid form of identification. My friend, who is 23, has a state-issued, photo ID. It's not a drivers license though. And because it was not a driver's license, it was considered invalid. I didn't know liquor stores could choose to only serve those that know how to drive cars! Mind you, the clerk did not do this in a polite or quiet fashion. Then she tells me that I have to return my liquor. With a raised voice, she calls over a manager to get cash register authorization to give me my cash back. My 23 year old friend, who has been to many bars and liquor stores before this one, had never once before been turned down because of this ID. If you look up ServeSafe's State of MN Liquor Authority rules, one can easily find that her ID was a valid form of identification for purchasing liquor. I find it extremely odd this clerk chose to go out of her way to deny service to three sluts rather than pay any attention to the hoards of under-aged kids sitting in their friends cars in the parking lot. And yes, hoards there were on this Halloween party night. If they go out of their way, beyond what laws state is necessary, to not sell their products to people, that really says something about their interest in keeping legally-aged customers happy. Update: I called the store manager about this situation, he apologized for the mean clerk but backed her up. Anyone that doesn't have a license to drive must have a back up ID such as a passport. Goodness, you'd think non-drivers were like Mexican-Americans in Arizona.... "Show me your papers!"
