this town is nothing but cesspool after all it cares for none of the locals it constantly allows more students in even though it's already over flowing to the point that any local here will tell you this town sucks thanks to the college since it's constantly pushing out Lov with absorbent pricing and limiting of housing to strictly college students due to this reason here most locals hate all the college students just as much as they do the college if I had to change its name it would be almost stupid university read more

Beautiful campus, small tour groups (3-5 students per group) . We had beautiful weather for October (67 degrees). The tour was about 1.5 hrs and the tour guide we had was terrific. I wish I took more pictures! read more

My Daughter loves it here. A great State school but with a small town feel. The population of Boon is actually smaller than the amount of students. But the town is building. It's situated in a mountain town that has plenty of shops, restaurants , breweries and a Mast General Store. The school is famous for its Photography and Arts programs and also is a great school for teaching programs. Newly added is the Nursing classes. It has a great football team with a nice stadium, a baseball team, and a great basketball arena. Tuition is very reasonable. Only bad thing? Very low amount of on site housing. There are a ton of overpriced apartments in Boone that are really scammers to the kids. Best bet if you can find one early, is to look for private rentals. read more

So within covid we had tickets for Rosanne Cash. Obviously cancelled. They wouldn't refund. This was March 2019. I left emails with no response several times over 2020. This year I have called. Finally reached someone today who said they sent out a secret email (no doubt bound for junk) in January telling us how to get refund...no letter, just email. This is a great school. Great faculty, great teachers, good students, and some top notch researchers. They are our "competition" but they are also a school I'd send my boy to. Tons of outdoor stuff, cool college town in the making. They need a brewery and a few less chains. read more

I'm biased....I graduated from here and look how I turned out..........oops. Perhaps that is not the best way to review. I went here a while ago and it has changed a lot since then. But the school continues to have a great faculty, staff, and programs that I'd go back for a second time if I could *grin*. Serious about both academics and sports, you can tell by the amount of development that has occurred in both those areas over the last 10 years or so. The campus is compact to say the least and getting to class is a breeze no matter where you are on campus. The town of Boone is right there so food, drink, and everything else is right at a students finger tips. FYI....the steam tunnels are still fun to explore if you don't get caught......*evil grin* read more

I loved it here as a student and enjoy coming back to visit. Driving through campus is hard so I would suggest parking in the visitors deck and walking around. The campus is large and beautiful. I had fun checking out my favorite spots like the student union and library. People here are very friendly. read more

Wasn't for me. The vast majority of the students come from small North Carolina towns basically an hour or two away, for most of them, that's a real stretch getting them out of their small towns and coming to a place where they don't already know everyone. They were the Big Fish in high school. They room with someone from their hometown, never really want to go beyond that. I'm sure for the ones that come from these small mindedness backgrounds, this place is sheer heaven. Limited cultural and social activities on campus. You're mainly going to meet people from small towns from Western North Carolina, where the majority go back to their hometowns. Nothing wrong with that, but that's the general population here. Beautiful campus. Great location, but it's very cold, prepare for snow boots 4 months out of the year. read more

I love this university and miss it so much. I graduated here in 2011 and absolutely loved every minute of the 4 years I spent here. All the professors and staff are so friendly (I think it's because they get to live in the mountains). The campus is gorgeous and you can walk to anywhere on campus within 15 minutes. I was in the best shape of my life from walking up and down the hills to class! I know my friends and I complained a lot, "there's nothing to do in Boone", but oh my, there is! So many fun shops along King Street, an AMAZING football team, a bunch of ski slopes to choose from, the Blue Ridge Parkway to explore... Ah! Now I'm getting homesick. I would go back in a second if I could! read more

It's ok on the mountains. In recent years increased enrollment and lack of fund has significantly impacted the quality of education. And it's not a comparative environment. kinda hard to find people to do "research" (I mean STEM, not some research paper for general education). I spent my first 2 years of college here. I loved every minute of it. This is an area of the country that you truly fall in love with if you spend enough time. There are so many activities to do here it would be hard to list them all. I loved all the outdoor adventures I went on, hiking, camping, exploring. I still love coming back to the area whenever possible. I had some great professors at ASU, that fired up desire for higher education. The campus has grown so much since the time I attended and looks even more beautiful now. A great place to go to school. read more

Excellent food and a decent number of chili pepper worthy professors Also the education is pretty great and the psych department offers lots of research experience in the cognitive and neurolab for undergraduate students on the path for graduate pursuits. read more

I am currently a senior at App State and absolutely love it here. I wouldn't change coming here for anything because I have grown so much here and found out who I am and what I stand for. Before I came here, I wasn't confident in myself and wasn't sure what I wanted outta life (job/major wise). But after trying out the Reich College of Ed (aka the best college there is here), I know that teaching is for me and I can't wait to begin my career's journey in the Fall next year! Parents and students should be forewarned: there is not even close to enough on-campus housing for students!!! Freshman usually get a dorm, but after that-there is a lottery with NO priority or seniority for anyone! (unless you are an athlete-although they don't openly admit that, everyone is aware) And once you live off campus, you are ineligible to return to more affordable on-campus housing, even when it was NOT YOUR CHOICE TO BEGIN WITH! I have not had to deal with this from other colleges with other children, and the stress it causes parents and kids is just unacceptable! Guess they have gotten too big to care. They really need to get their act together, especially with the unfortunate and horrific rate of student suicides in the last 2 years!! There is a lot of room for improvement! read more
