From start to finish Jody and her team were wonderful to work with--they were highly knowledgeable, professional, communicative, and responsive, and took the time to make sure everything was designed and completed to a high standard. This project is something we'd been wanting to do for years, and it came out better than we could have imagined! We had a lot of different goals for what's a fairly small front yard with quite a bit of shade: we wanted an attractive design that would reduce water use and maintenance needs, support pollinators throughout the full growing season, create a firebreak near the house, have a nice space for our kids to enjoy, and add some edible plants/berries/herbs if possible. Wild Heritage went above and beyond in delivering on all of these criteria, and it's a strong testament to their experience, passion, and deep knowledge of landscape design, sustainable planting, water management, and construction. Our new front yard has quickly become a favorite place for our whole family to spend time, and our kids love running around the path, sitting on the rocks, watching bumblebees and ladybugs, and admiring each new flower that blooms. Our 6-year-old son now asks to go outside with us every night to read on the patio and is beyond excited to pick strawberries, gooseberries, honeyberries, and cherries as the plants grow and mature. And thanks to the high-quality soil, customized drip irrigation system, and detailed instructions Wild Heritage provided, the plants are already growing like crazy just a few short weeks after being planted. We've already gotten tons of compliments from our neighbors (both on our street and some that have been driving by), and we can't wait to see how our garden grows and changes over the coming years. If you are debating working with a landscape architect to draft plans or jump straight into a yard…read morerenovation, I highly recommend getting plans done! Having a detailed set of plans makes sure you can get like-bids from different contractors and compare them -- otherwise you are really comparing apples to oranges. Is the cheaper bid really cheaper, or is it not as thorough? Even though getting plans is an additional step and cost, it can save you so much in the end, ensure you get exactly what you want done, and allows you to phase in your project while still keeping to the original vision (if you can't spend all the moolah on one big bang). With all that being said, It has been such a pleasure working with Gary to turn our dream yard into a reality! He took our perspective and ideas and also provided input/suggestions based on his years of experience -- For example, what plants have invasive roots and to avoid, how to create and open flow while also developing separate entertaining areas, etc. Through a series of drafts, reviews, and revisions he has helped us get together an amazing plan for our backyard space. He is always punctual with meetings and deliverables and very responsive to texts and emails. Lastly, he is helping us figure out which elements we should implement first to make sure we don't have to do any rework with later phase implementations. The owner collaborated with us to find out our tastes, and provided a detailed drawing. His suggestion of integrating indigenous rocks was a huge plus; he selected them and his crew knew where to place them artistically. The use of mulch and rock was applied pleasingly to break up spaces throughout the yard. The stone path was constructed meticulously and it is beautiful.
