On a continual journey for spiritual and physical betterment, and after many twists and turns in my…read morelife, I finally found my way to Florida Aikikai, and am now blessed and honored to call this place home. Aikido, in it's broadest sense, is the way of harmony that one should strive to attain in all aspects of life. I'm not going to get into the technicalities of the philosophy here, but as I understand it, the practice of aikido and spreading of it's teachings will ultimately help to create a peaceful world for all. Luckily, there are many high level practitioners at this dojo who can provide more insight about this incredible martial art, beginning with Senseis Penny and Peter who are members of the USAF board. Because of the many teachers that students have access to, there are many different teaching styles that we experience, which greatly benefit growth in the art. There are classes available at various times, for individuals of every skill level and most age groups, and even specialised classes, teaching weapons, internals, and overall wellness. Class provides an opportunity for high intensity and dynamic movement, but also teaches you to be calm and focused in difficult situations. Both being things that we all need in our everyday life. One of the best things that has happened since attending is that I have also built a great sense of community with the students and teachers, many of whom have become close friends outside of training. There are usually special offers when you first join. You can sign up and give yourself time to try it out and see if you like it. For me, it took one meeting with Sensei Peter and one trial class, and I was hooked and wanting more. I think you might feel the same way if you tried it. Feel free to come in and take a look, talk to someone, and hopefully join us on the mat. See you there.

5 stars - true art, very immersive if you want to learn history and culture as it relates to…read moreeverything Aikido. 5 stars - family friendly..... all the sensei's believe in character building for the kids, it's all part of the art. They encourage parents to take classes; if you sit there and watch you kids classes, you will eventually be gently coaxed to try an adult class. Lol. They definitely believe in it takes a village. The kids winter and summer camps are good, it can be sometimes crowded I guess they don't like turning kids away since they have become quite popular. Compared to other similarly priced camps, hands down the child prefers being here for the a camp. A true art. A great place to learn Aikido. Family friendly, let your kids practice on you. Lol.

Love ATT Fort Lauderdale! Let me preface by saying that I started out doing Muay Thai and…read moregrappling while living in LA and went to several martial arts gyms over the years. When I moved to Florida, I was searching for a place where I could continue training in an environment that valued respect, had a good philosophy on life, discipline, and fighting, and where I would least likely to be hit on (I took the availability of kids classes as an indication that this was a safe place.) After reading all of the reviews online (google), checking out their extensive Facebook and instagram pages and giving them a call, I started taking group Muay Thai classes a few years back with Coach Luis. Due to a move, I stopped my membership for a couple years but when I contacted ATT again several months ago to take private Muay Thai classes, I was welcomed back warmly. I have only good things to say about ATT Ft. Lauderdale, the instructors (Coach Luis), front desk (thank you Filipe and Caroline!), and even fellow students whom I've met while there. Although I have not participated in the events (Halloween night for kids, End of the Year party at the beach and even a birthday party for Coach Junior), the environment is incredibly family friendly and community-building. And when I say family friendly, I mean they have a rocker and changing table in the lounge area right before the womens bathroom, and one dad felt comfortable bringing his infant in a carseat/stroller to class - the baby hung out on the side and throughout the class, different guys went over to check on the baby. When my daughter turns 3, I hope to bring her to try the kids classes. That's a testament to how comfortable feel about this gym. Here are some additional thoughts: - Great workouts with Coach Luis where I'm never bored, always sweaty and sore afterwards, and always learning new techniques. He keeps me interested, motivated and excited for the next class by changing it up between holding pads, bag work, stations, cardio, abs, etc. and working through "what if" scenarios if I have questions. He tailors workouts and pushes me to improve. - They really try to accommodate my schedule for private classes which made it possible for me to get back into Muay Thai. - Facilities are kept clean (did a deep clean one Friday morning while I was there and all the furniture was moved around). After returning from my hiatus, I found that they made improvements to the space. Seems like they are always trying to improve. - Front desk is super friendly, responsive, and accommodating when I had questions or had to reschedule private classes. They text! I'm always greeted at the door and they know students by name. - Seems to value feedback for improvement - they sent out a questionnaire and I don't know if it's a coincidence but something I commented on was addressed a couple weeks later. - Parking can be tricky depending on when/what day you go. There are some spaces available in front of the gym or you can chance it and park on the gravel across the street, next to the train tracks that says permit only. Overall, I found ATT Ft. Lauderdale to be a great place to train and would highly recommend it.

His genuine love of martial arts and show of enthusiasm for his craft is infectious and motivating. As a beginner starting from scratch, I appreciated his patience and encouraging words during our private lessons. Do not get me wrong. He is tough, a perfectionist, and expects a lot from his students. He is amazing with children of all ages, from the tiny tots to the older teens. Although strict, he radiates calmness /kindness and humor. You can see the kids adore and respect him. He is definitely a master in his trade who can impart knowledge in a meaningful and understanding format. The private lessons I take with Master Ferrer have been extremely helpful in progressing me faster than I would have just taking group classes. As a physician, this activity is great for a child's overall character and physical development. For adults the benefits of cardiopulmonary training, flexibility and hand eye coordination would prevent or slow down many of the aging issues we deal with. If you think you are too old... think not. I am almost 57yo and my martial arts partner is a 73 yo feisty energetic female. Why should the kids be the only one having fun? This replaces for me the boring workout classes and gyms. I am glad to have found this place and be part of this close knit family of martial arts instructors and students.

She was engaged, walked around correcting form, and actually paid attention. The corrections were helpful and made a difference. It was challenging in a good way. Definitely felt the burn. My only issue was the music. It was a little too loud. If you're new or it's your first few classes, it can be hard to clearly hear cues and follow along when the volume is that high. It can be a bit overwhelming. Other than that, I recommend taking Kenisha's class.

A gym friend recommended Solidcore, and I tried my first class via ClassPass. The session was 50 minutes straight, and you definitely sweat a lot (which is good). The instructor will ask if there are any new folks before starting so he/she can assist if need-be. If you're new, be prepared to be a little thrown off with the movements that others are doing, but all you'd need to do is look around or eye the instructor, and he/she will help you with no issues. Also give the schedule a look so you'll know which parts of the body you'll be focusing on beforehand (not every session is the same). Definitely would recommend giving Solidcore a try, and committing if you like it!
