So, I'm Trans. This is a thing I've known my whole life and never felt safe enough to talk about. But after a year of true personal growth in all areas of my life and a seemingly nonchalant conversation with my Doctor this past June, I finally felt safe/ready to do something about having my outsides match my insides. To help other Trans guys, and maybe gals, navigate the overwhelming obstacles of transitioning and everything that comes with it, I'm making my own Trans (bookmarks) List. Taking steps to start testosterone replacement therapy led me to Any Lab Test now. We all have a love/hate relationship with insurance. Before realizing that T was actually an assessable thing, I switched to a really high deductible insurance plan. There are lots of steps involved in starting testosterone. I was fortunate to have a really open and affirming Primary Care Doctor who referred me to the leading Endocrinologist in town. From there it's required that you get a letter from a therapist and have a series of blood tests done. This helps the Endocrinologist establish a baseline so he can safely and accurately monitor your levels once you start T. I left my first appt with an order for 9 different lab tests. Knowing that I had a high deductible plan and that lab tests are not cheap, I decided to do my homework before committing to any particular lab. Obviously each insurance plan is different, so do your own homework - but in my case, after a frustrating afternoon of calling the labs within my Humana network, I got a ballpark estimation from LabCorp. It was going to cost about $1040 for the 9 required tests. Yikes! So, I did what any fiscally responsible Elite does and I turned to my trusty sidekick.. Yelp! I quickly found Any Lab Test Now. They had one short review (5 stars), stock photos (yuck) and a location in St. Matthews near Trader Joe's (it's next to JoAnn's). A quick click took me to their website where I found really straightforward pricing. I looked up all my tests, made a list of prices, then, with my 8th grade math teacher probably cringing somewhere, I used the "calculator in my pocket" she said I'd never have to add it all up. It came to $500ish. Less than HALF of what insurance wanted to charge. So, I said YOLO and drove over to the ALTN. The 2 ladies working were so nice! You could tell they were a cohesive team and enjoyed what they did. I explained what I needed and she helped me build a custom package. I expected to pay $500, but with her help, I only spent $250! .. and here's the kicker, the lab they send their samples to for testing... LabCorp! Talk about insurance price gouging! The blood draw was pretty quick. I got the results within 24 hours and they sent a copy to my Doctor with no problems. They said they do testing for a lot of guys like me. She even gave me a special spider-man bandaid! So, how do they do it.. keep the prices so low? They don't mess with insurance, at all. So the $250 I spent doesn't go toward my deductible... but I saved $790! (Feel free to check that math). Worth it! I will be back to ALTN for all my follow-up blood tests. Any Lab Test Now is a really safe, friendly and inclusive business for Trans folks (and I assume cis-gender folks too) . I also appreciated how quick and professional they were. I had such a great experience that I ended up staying for a bit, just shooting the ---- with them. By the end of the visit we were practically besties. I doubt that's a level of comfort most people would find at any other lab. Bonus info: they also have a check-in offer, but since I was already getting a package deal, I couldn't combine the discounts. But if you're only getting 1 Test, do it! More money saved! Woot-woot.

I saved $600 going here instead of Quest for yearly routine labs. Excellent, professional service.
