Two parts, we got a smaller Turkish mosaic lamp that may or may not make it back packed in bubble wrap and clothes, and a little rug for one of our cats, and a pillow case for our cat sitter, and a scarf for a Philosopher friend. In the ceramics part of the shop we got some pretty bowls which also might not survive the ride in luggage but they did wrap them up well and they are embedded in clothes and yarn. The Chief of Staff is in to knitting and bought yarn in Turkiye, which makes for good packing. None of this was expensive and the attempts to upset weren't overbearing.

I loved that he was open about differences in pricing and reasonings, and showed me how to distinguish quality ceramics from cheaper made ones for future reference in future travels. During our trip we found ourselves returning several times to this store for the unique, high quality, authentic, and decently priced handiwork. This is a tiny little shop and jam packed with unique items - hand crafted belts, shirts, and the crocheted jewellery. Every time we went in we saw something different. The crocheted jewellery was common to find in other shops as well, but wasn't exactly the same here. This store seemed to take the local common handiwork and find ways in which to make something new and stylish from it. Fantastic little place and I definitely love the unique pieces I purchased here. The service was also very friendly.

The Visa transaction went through with no problems just as it did yesterday. Yesterday I charged 900 lira and today's bill came to 635 lira as I'm stocking the kitchen in my new apartment. But today they asked for my passport for the first time and I didn't have it. I don't normally carried around in Turkey because it's not usually ask for unless you are doing something like registering a phone and signing a contract. I explained to them that I hadn't needed it in the past and that I would bring it next time but they wouldn't budge. So after much haggling, they pulled me out of line and suggested I go get the amount of money at the nearby ATM, which I did. The shopping cart was under their jurisdiction the whole time and I came back and even though they had already charged me and then uncharged me, they insisted that I go through the line and check out all the groceries once again. I didn't make a scene, but I just decided to leave without the groceries. I might go back to this place, but I was planning on this being my main grocery store and now I'm going to definitely check out the competition before coming back to shop at this store.
