I liked this store a lot until today. I am an American and I have an American visa card and I have bought groceries at the store twice before and today they asked for my passport to prove that I owned the Visa card. The Visa transaction went through with no problems just as it did yesterday. Yesterday I charged 900 lira and today's bill came to 635 lira as I'm stocking the kitchen in my new apartment. But today they asked for my passport for the first time and I didn't have it. I don't normally carried around in Turkey because it's not usually ask for unless you are doing something like registering a phone and signing a contract. I explained to them that I hadn't needed it in the past and that I would bring it next time but they wouldn't budge. So after much haggling, they pulled me out of line and suggested I go get the amount of money at the nearby ATM, which I did. The shopping cart was under their jurisdiction the whole time and I came back and even though they had already charged me and then uncharged me, they insisted that I go through the line and check out all the groceries once again. I didn't make a scene, but I just decided to leave without the groceries. I might go back to this place, but I was planning on this being my main grocery store and now I'm going to definitely check out the competition before coming back to shop at this store. read more
