We walked over around 8:30 AM and found that it was still there, but it was closed and had a sign that said they opened at 9:00 AM. We walked by again around 9:15 AM and the place was still closed, completely dark, and with no signs of activity. I figured the business had gone away. We found baked goods elsewhere and went on with our day. Later that afternoon we happened to pass by again, and the store was open with a small selection of cannoli and some other sweets. So it seems like in its current state, this is a mid-afternoon bakery of confections. Or something. If you want bread, go to Crai.

While we stayed in Manarola, it was a short 10 min train ride from that town and we had planned to hike back to Manarola via the Via dell'Amore. Since it was an early morning we were the first customers, so they had plenty of fresh focaccia ready to eat. They have a large variety of focaccia with toppings to choose from, I picked the pesto and tomato focaccia and it was delicious! I would definitely recommend giving this shop a try for focaccia.

The artichokes added a surprising textural contrast, and the creamy stracchino cheese and the herbaceous basil pesto added great flavor to every bite! I also tried the focaccia with anchovies and capers, and while this version was on the salty side, it was full of umami goodness. Ended up buying some Amaretti, spice mix and some anchovies in oil with chili. Prices were a bit on the higher end, but hey, it's Portofino. Quality-wise all products were really nice, of course we got some for ourselves as well. Amaretti were nice, good flavour. The spice mix is very useful for cooking some good pasta and the anchovies are nice for some charcuterie plates. Good stuff if you're into anchovies like us. Enjoyed our shopping here and walked away happy.

There are tables inside and outside though no table service or table charge. Bussing tables is a bit of a toss-up here as staff are usually busy helping customers. I'm inclined to pick up after others, especially when traveling abroad, but bringing the dishes up to the counter just seems to slow down the pace of business. If you're feeling guilty about your own mess or someone else's, I'd recommend just straightening up the table as best you can, but leaving the dishes to the professionals.
