We were greeted by gracious hotel staff that offered us champagne to enjoy on the rooftop terrace. When you walk out onto the terrace, you get the most incredible views. They also have a hot tub on the rooftop. The main lobby of the hotel small but includes a dining area where you eat breakfast and a small wine cellar. The receptionist are great and can book any events or make restaurant reservations for you. The rooms are very clean and spacious compared to a lot of the other hotels in the area. Overall, a wonderful hotel with some of the most beautiful views of Tropea. I highly recommend staying here on your next trip.

Having come from Sorrento after a week's visit, it is obvious to me that the Calabria coastal region is the best kept secret of Italy. The medieval history, architecture, piazza, churches, food and warmth of the local people beckon you to stay, enjoy, be nurtured and rejuvenated by all that southern Italy has to offer. Wake up to the sound of the sea and enjoy the hotel's outstanding breakfast selection with every choice of fresh, local foods that are both, extensive, delicious and characteristic of this region. All this with views of the sea from a position perched high above the cliffs. An ideal location to walk to the grand piazza, which is perhaps the most charming, piazza I have seen in all of Italy with it's many medieval buildings, cobblestone streets that meander throughout the town, taking you through dim lit alleyways that boast one market, restaurant and boutique after another. Here you will find the multi-generational locals who embrace all tourists with open arms and wide smiles. Though English is limited, the body language says it all...." Benvenuto nella nostra città e apprezzare tutto ciò che abbiamo da offrire . Siamo molto orgogliosi di Tropea e la sua ricca storia." (translated: welcome to our town and appreciate all that we have to offer. We are very proud of Tropea and it's rich history."

We had a nice room with balkony and a direct view onto the mediterranean sea. The room was equipped with an aircon, a mini bar, flat TV, a safe, and has a broad bed. Everything was in good condition. Also the bathroom with its combined bathtub/shower was fine, there was nothing to complain about. The dedicated room service cared for a tidy and clean room every day. The very spacious designed hotel lobby offered plenty of seating, even on the terrace. The seating is very comfortable. The bar offers a wide range of different drinks. There is free WiFi in the lobby, but not on the hotel rooms. The staff at the reception was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner was served in large halls with a huge amount of tables on the lower floor of the hotel building. Due to the size of these halls and plenties of guests it was often very noisy. The breakfast buffet was a little unimaginative and lacks in varity. In addition, its arrangement was confusing and required long walks until I had everything on the meal tray what I needed. However, both the lunch, but above all the dinner was of good to very good quality. There was always a very varied range of food provided: a salad buffet, antipasti, different pasta, fish, seafood, meat, vegetarian food, delicious desserts, etc. There was something for everyone, and it tasted very good. Also the dedicated service staff has been on the ball and cares for a pleasant stay. Who wanted some varity could reserve a table in the hotel's restaurant, located down near the beach, which offered a different á la carte menu every day. The hotel offers three swimming pools: two open air, and one indoor. As far as I can assess it, was everything in a good technical condition and very clean. What I liked very much: It is not allowed to reserve the sun loungers, e.g. with a towel. First come, first serve. In addition, the hotel has its own beach with numerous sun loungers on the Mediterranean. The beach is unfortunately a bit stony, therefore bath shoes are appropriate. There are also very nice beaches in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, for example in Cefalù, just a few kilometers away. Also a few kilometers away is also a supermarket ("Conad") in Campofelice di Roccella. Basically this hotel is also very good for excursions, if one has a car. You can reach Palermo in less than an hour. My tip is the visit of Monreale, a small town in the province of Palermo, on the slope of Monte Caputo. A visit of the cathedral of Monreale (Santa Maria Nuova), one of the greatest extant examples of Norman architecture in the world, is a must! This building with its impressive glass mosaics covering the interior (approx. 6.500 qm) is simply breathtaking. All in all we enjoyed this holiday very much and the hotel has earned four stars.

This isn't just a 'favourite place'. Atelier Sul Mare is now my favourite place in the whole world…read more I can't stress enough how stunning and perfect this hotel is. If I could, I would pack up my bags right now and live here. I actually found out about it after a conversation on Qype too :-) I've never been one to stay in a hotel while I'm on a holiday. Give me a hostel, a cheap b&b and i'm happy - after all I'm not planning on spending much time there so I only really need a bed and a cup of coffee! Atelier Sul Mare is different. Oh so different. Roughly translated at the 'art hotel by the sea' you're treated to a stunning array of rooms. 25 years ago, 15 artists were asked to create hotel rooms with a difference. This is the result. It's so difficult to explain the experience. You honestly don't know what to expect when you get there. One room had a shower like a carwash. There was a room with a bed like a birds nest, one was like a fairy tale tower! When we saw that one on the website images, it looked scary, but when we saw it in real life, it was stunning - shame it wasn't free when we wanted to stay there. All of the art rooms have sea views - and these are stunning. You get a tour of the rooms each day - by moving each evening you get to experience different rooms - a clever way of the hotel keeping the rooms free, and a really great twist. it is worth moving your stuff over. All of the rooms have air con, but you won't find a TV or mini bar. That's really not the point of the hotel - if theses are on your list of must haves and you aren't willing to overlook them, them you're kinda missing the point of the hotel. The rest of the hotel is beautiful. Really stunning. there's an art gallery for goodness sake! How many hotels have one of those?! There's a great restaurant (which I've written about serperately). It's not cheap, but the food is great. There's a bar next door too. Nice enough, but they'll serve you your drink by the beach so there's not much point staying the bar! You also get use of a perfect little private beach with the bluest sea in the whole world. (My boyfriend taught me to swim in that sea, so I promise it's warm!) Don't expect any tourists around you. You're right next to a teeny town - this hotel is perfect for escapism. All this for EUR85 per person a night in September for an art room. I think standard rooms are about EUR65 and while they're stunning, I think if you're going to splash out, stay in an art room. I might just book a flight back there right now. It's the most perfect place in the world. I have such a special place in my heart for this hotel. I don't think I could ever stay in a Radisson again. Perfect. Awesome.

In reality this place is even more wonderful that what people say about it. Being the only Art Museum Hotel in the world it provides you an experience that no other place ever can. I was given a guided tour of the hotel's art rooms and it was a great experience. The hotel is very near to the beach and the guests get free access o the fully equipped beach. The Art Hotel in Sicily is a place that I would highly recommend to everyone.

Only 12 rooms so guests get personalized attention. It has more of a Villa feel than a hotel. Like staying at someone's incredibly beautiful home. We arrived at lunch time and decided to have lunch at the hotel. Everything is homemade with fresh local ingredients even the beer is locally made. The pool is a nice size for swimming or just relaxing and looking at the mountains or sea. They also have a sulfer tub which nobody tried. It looked a bit scary. They have really cool covered lounge chairs with privacy netting. Exceptionally clean hotel. The owner takes a lot of pride in her hotel and it shows. She even designed every room. It has a Mediterranean look and feel. Very relaxing and comfortable. Rooms are a nice size with an outdoor balcony including a chair, table and hammock chair. They left us fresh flowers and chocolates as a welcome gift. Only downside is the town is down a hill and I think I made a wrong turn and it took us much longer to find the restaurant. If you walk there are stray dogs but they seem harmless, and we also bumped into a rat on a fence so just keep that in mind if wildlife bothers you. One other thing if you don't have a car transportation is expensive. Definitely a great place to spend a few days or a week just to relax in a peaceful, beautiful setting with a warm helpful staff.

I booked the presidential suite room 201, and was extremely let down upon arrival. The room was outdated, showing signs of wear and tear that suggested it hadn't been remodeled in decades. For the hefty price of $2,400 a night, I expected a much more luxurious and not dated room. My other room 101 was actually nicer and 1/2 the price. After expressing my concerns, the staff did offer me a different room 105 that had been remodeled, although it was not a suite. While I appreciated the effort, it was disappointing to have to downgrade when I had specifically booked a suite for that price. They mentioned they would speak to the booking agency regarding the price difference or possibly cover my dinner as compensation. However, at the end of my stay, I was surprised to find that nothing was taken off my bill. The hotel is situated in an amazing location. However, the outdated rooms and the lack of care from the staff left much to be desired. I felt that the staff didn't prioritize guest satisfaction, which really detracted from the overall stay. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel unless significant changes are made to both the accommodations and the level of service. It's a shame, as this place has so much potential in such a prime location. Knowing other real luxury resorts are near the area we will just stay there next year.

The building and the setting are absolutely beautiful. We had a room with a balcony that offered incredible views of Mt Etna, the sea, and the amphitheater. The rooms are exceptionally appointed. Ours had a large walk-in closet, a sitting room area equipped with TV and mini bar (plus Nespresso machine), a beautiful bedroom and a very large bathroom. I think the biggest highlight of this room was the balcony, where we took our breakfast every morning. The staff at Timeo seem to be highly committed to creating an experience of excellence for guests. Every morning for breakfast, a butler or two would come to our room, set up a beautiful table on the patio for us and provide all the food we ordered (which, by the way, was included in our room rate and did NOT cost extra! It almost seemed too good to be true.) You want scrambled eggs for breakfast? Done. A plate of prosciutto? No problem. A basket of pastries and a big glass of lemon granita? Done and done. I don't think any breakfast will ever top the ones we had here. We originally had reserved a table at Otto Geleng, but decided upon arrival that we'd rather have a more relaxed (and admittedly, cheaper) meal at Timeo's other restaurant. I would love to experience Otto Geleng in the future, but we have no regrets about the choice we made at the time. The restaurant is beautifully situated on a patio overlooking the town, the volcano, and the sea. You could not have a more romantic setting! The food and service was exceptional. I recall having a lobster pasta that was prepared tableside for me, and some very excellent Sicilian wine. A few additional touches that really put this place over the top for me: slippers and robes included in the rooms; turndown service; the Acqua di Parma bath products; the comfortable lounge chairs on our patio; the beautiful gardens; the beautiful, historic architecture; did I mention the breakfast???
