I was prescribed tretinoin, clindamycin etccc which helped for a while... until it didn't and I broke out like crazy!! I got to the point where I was just over it and I saw another dermatologist who immediately suggested either spironolactone or Accutane. I chose spironolactone because Accutane felt a bit too intense at the time. It helped somewhat, but even after 4 months I was still breaking out, and my body wasn't adjusting well to it. Michelle sat down with me and really took the time to go through my full skin history like what I've used, what I'm currently using, everything. After seeing my skin, she told me it actually looked like rosacea, which no one had ever mentioned to me before and that my skin barrier was damaged. She completely switched up my routine and slowly took me off Spirno and prescribed me Winlevi(topical cream) and Akleif. I was doing doxycycline but stopped after 2 months. Along with Vanicream face wash and their sunscreen! Within a few weeks, I started noticing a difference. My skin was calmer, less inflamed, and the painful breakouts started to go away. Over time, my skin has improved so much! I still have dark spots but those just take some time I can't recommend her enough if you're struggling with stubborn acne or feel like nothing else has worked. I also did change my diet to Whole Foods/ no dairy or gluten so if you're also struggling with hormonal acne look into that as well it helps a ton!

When the doxycycline wasn't working she suggested Photodynamic therapy. I was skeptical but I was willing to try it since I didn't want to do accutane again and cause any more liver damage. My skin has never looked worse. I started breaking out everywhere. When I went in for my first treatment, they asked me if I had any questions and I said no. My mistake to trust blindly. I shouldn't asked why they weren't taking pictures of my skin before the procedure. I should've asked if my skin should get worse before it gets better. I should've asked when I will see the doctor for a check up. I should've asked the success rate of the treatment in their facility. I should've done more but I was so insecure and looking for cure that I trusted her to use her education to help me. Recently, I called the office to see the doctor and ask what was going on with my skin and never got a call back. I was on a specific skin care regime and called to pick up a sunscreen and never had my call returned. When I went to go pick up more sunscreen I was unable to because no one was there. I showed up at 9 am when they are supposed to be opened and no one was there. I work long days, Monday-Friday 11 AM - 8 PM, so I have small gaps of time I can go pick up these products. I've spent over $600 on treatment, skin care, and doxycycline. I feel like I was not taken care of, I felt ignored, and felt like a quick check for minimal results. I called OSVI in the morning at 9:00am and had an appointment to see Dr. Nicole Salame at 10:45am the same day! Upon arrival, the front office staff was very welcoming and as a first time patient I was handed an easy to use tablet instead of a clipboard and papers to fill out. I was offered a choice of refreshment while I waited to see the doctor which, was maybe 20 minutes from my arrival. Dr. Salame examined me and reviewed the ultrasound that I had brought. She offered to treat the cyst the same day!! I was provided with an estimate for the service (OSVI was not covered by my insurance) that I found very reasonable. She performed the surgery in office and her skill and care was just wonderful. She has excellent bedside manner and communicated openly before, during and after the procedure. I really appreciate that she always responded to my questions with empathy and professionalism. I never felt rushed! Something that is very rare with doctors these days. By 12:30 I was checking out of the office with my painful cyst gone!! I was given clear instructions on how to care for the wound and some sample ointment that was thoughtfully put in a little bag. Yes, even as a guy, little details like this matter because it shows that the staff are thinking about their patient's well being and not just performing a perfunctory job. I can't emphasize enough how everyone was so pleasant and how I felt like a valued patient. I returned in 2 weeks for a follow-up to remove the stiches and was informed that I was healing well. Today the surgical wound has almost disappeared with little to no scar and absolutely no complications. Overall, I am THRILLED with the results!
