Grassmarket, Old Town

If you're looking for contemporary Scottish design of the highest calibre, then come to Anta…read more Selling a range of furniture and linen, from superbly upholstered chairs to plush cushions, Anta puts a modern twist on traditional knits. Each item is handmade in the Scottish woolen mills, and the love put into making these materials shows in the impeccable quality of the knits. Their furniture collection is tasteful while also being distinctly of Scottish origin. They use earthy colours and timeless, accurate tartan patterns in each of their designs. Each is sourced to its isle or mainland place of origin. Although it is expensive, anyone interested in interior design with money to spend would be making an investment shopping from here. Along with selling large items such as couches, they also sell more affordable cushions and chic tartan bags. Ethical, detailed and independent design at its best, Anta's sincere and unique innovations move Scotland's design forward into the 21st century. An absolute treasure of a shop!

Anta is a fantastic shop selling the most amazing Scottish fabrics. Situated in the Grassmarket…read morearea of Edinburgh, Anta is just a short walk from the city centre and from the Royal Mile so it is in a handy location for tourists to reach. Anta sells a huge range of different fabrics, including wool, tweed and linen, in a vast range of designs and so can chose which material you want, and Anta will use it to make curtains or to upholster cushions and chairs. I love to come into Anta and browse all the different fabrics and look at their rugs and throws which I absolutely adore, they are made of wool and cashmere and they are so soft to touch, although they are really pricey, costing about £200 - but SOO worth it! Anta also sell a selection of cushions which they have covered themselves in a range of different fabrics which look and feel heavenly. Clothes are also available here, such as corsets, skirts and the most beautiful scarves and shawls I have seen. Tweed shoulder and weekend bags are also sold here, which I also really want, and the smaller ones cost £40 which is very reasonable. When I am older, I want the inside of my house to have all the tartan and tweed products which Anta sell, and I can't wait to shop here when I have more money so I can buy the beautifully soft throws.

I was always keen to go into this shop as it always has really nice, trendy displays and I always fantasized about my future furnishings. I was always too scared to go in, however, as it id definitely not the sort of place you go in for a nosey. I was not disappointed with the selection of furniture, ornaments and decor at all - very trendy and very cool, I recognized a lot of the patterns form Hollyoaks (great, if that's your thing). Although it is a lovely place, the price tag was not so lovely. But I have to admit, going into an interior designers in Stockbridge - I wasn't expecting a bargain. It's a nice place to go and get ideas, however. My friend ended up copying a painting she saw in James Wilson, and it looks just as good!

James Wilson boasts of selling beautiful, bespoke interior design, ranging from elegant wallpaper…read moreto trendy furniture. Contemporary, but seemingly inspired by classic periods of design like the 20s and 30s, James Wilson sells high wuality, magnificently upholstered couches and ornate floral wallpaper. They actually cover a wide range of design and have the added edge of being able to tailor their designs to fit your preferances. So if you see a sofa but would rather have it in another colour, they will make the amendments for you with no problem at all. It's expensive but well worth the money as each item can be personalised. They host such names as Monkwell and (gasp) Lloyd Loom wicker chairs! I love Lloyd Loom so I have a bit of a swoon at the chairs in the shop whenever I'm here. If I had a house with half of the furnishings from this lovely store, I would probably just gaze around the room all day and never sit on the chairs because they are too pretty! But the furniture seems durable as well, so it may appeal to people with young families as much as it would trend setting new home owners!

Stockbridge

I am SO excited that I get to be the first person to review this place!!!…read more Do you remember those tacky little stuffed animals with the suction cups on their hands that stick onto windows and look like they are attempting to meld into the window itself? For the first two months I lived in Stockbridge, it seemed like I only walked past this place after they were closed, and I did a pretty fantastic reenactment of "Garfield on a window" every darn time. Why? Because they are the kind of place that would never sell tacky suction cup stuffed animals. In fact, they are basically my interior design DREAM house shoved into one very small but impeccably put together shop. The first time I actually got to go in... well... do you remember the first time Dorothy saw The Emerald City? It was a little like that. I think I stood in the doorway for about three minutes just hearing gospel choir swells in my head. I'm sure someone helped me out that day. I can't remember, because I was too occupied thinking "I want that. I want that. Ooo! I want THAT!" but every time i've been in thereafter, the folks have been helpful. The best part? The place is INSANELY reasonable for how awesome it is. Not one thing i've seen has looked over priced and they have A FRICKIN VINTAGE VESPA FOR GOSH SAKES. From cool taxidermy to funky chairs, great lampshades, interesting art pieces and awesome things with antlers - I could buy this shop happily and have the coolest damn house in ALL THE LAND. In fact, the only reason i've never taken something home is because I can never decide on just one piece to start me off. It's a total hidden gem in Stockbridge and well worth exploring if you're looking for something unique. Love. Absolute love.
