Say what you like, this system is designed for thievery vis-a-vis visitor usage. Not having change…read moreand not seeing any obvious information stating that no change is provided, I put in a $20 bill for a very modest ride of about $3. Naturally, when I did not get any change I was consternated and inquired at the wicket booth. The person there acted like he resented his job and any unfortunate customer naive enough to make an inquiry. He was sassy and brash. I called Metra to explain my situation and to seek a refund. The service rep. was definitely much more tactful than the station employee, but was obviously well versed in towing the company line and was completely unhelpful. The company takes a hard-nosed stance on refusing refunds. Visitors, take note! Avoid Metro if possible, but certainly do not use bills exceeding the fare. Interestingly, a fellow passenger who was a recent transplant to the city empathized with me, stating that he had done exactly the same thing upon moving to Chicago and was refused a refund. Shame on Metra !!
