Few days before my appointment, I was informed that the stylist no longer had time to complete the full service due to a childcare issue, and my appointment was canceled altogether. And I'm the one who contacted Aly. (hair stylist) Aly didn't go out of her way to let me know. I only know because I texted her. While I understand that unexpected situations can come up, what was disappointing was the lack of notice and the absence of any effort to offer an alternative solution or reschedule. When clients plan ahead and reserve time weeks (or months) in advance, reliability and communication are extremely important. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet those expectations. I hope this feedback encourages better planning and communication moving forward.

Thank goodness I found Kellie when I moved to Nevada City! She does a fantastic job with my cut and color and takes great care of me during the time I am in her gorgeous salon. I would give her 5 stars as a stylist without hesitation. I removed one star though because the customer service at the front desk can be less than stellar, though I have never had anyone be exceedingly rude or anything- just not 5 star worthy. I have had multiple haircuts from other stylists in the salon when Kellie wasn't available and I have been impressed every single time. As someone who has had many services in shi-shi Beverly Hills salons and spas I have to tell you that the quality of stylists at Bel Capelli is top notch and is pretty close to what you would find in an Aveda salon in a big city. Not worth the $400 hair cut & color. I had a consultation with Ally and I showed her pictures of what I was going for and the color I wanted and that went fine, no problems, but when I got done with my official appointment my hair didn't turn out how I wanted it from the photo. It was a 5 hour appointment and I paid $220 plus 20% tip for her time. A couple days go by and I compared the photo of what I wanted and my result and decided to ask her to fix it. I didn't clarify beforehand if the fix would be free of charge because that's been my experience at salons but no, not this time. I spent another $140 to leave the salon with still not really what I was going for and now it's been a month and still not impressed and pretty mad honestly that I spent that much money and got a result far from what I wanted but maybe it's not all her fault, maybe she thinks she did a good job or that she just did what she wanted, the photos I brought in of what I wanted didn't matter, maybe she doesn't have much experience, heck, she was the first person I made an appointment with since moving to a new area but I figured this salon could do better but I should've done more research. The color is so subtle hardly anybody has noticed I changed my hair and to spend $400 I definitely would've wanted it to be noticeable and receive lots of compliments-it's pretty disappointing. I'm not sure what to do either at this point besides get my frustration out in this review. I already tried going in to have it fixed and was charged and I'm not spending more than I already have...I could call the salon and complain but to what benefit? The receptionist probably won't care and what would Ally think of me sitting in her chair for the 4th time still unhappy with my results? Ally if you're reading this I'm sorry, you're a nice gal but $400 to not be impressed is not a good feeling. I'll attach photos below in case anybody reads this far and is curious. Left photo is the one I brought in and right is my result. No No

Michelle Vesely does hair and she does a damn fine job of it, too. I came to Michelle after my once…read morefavourite stylist did a number on my bangs. The only other stylist in San Francisco who'd ever done a good job with my hair had apparently moved out of country since then but thankfully she recommended Michelle with enough accolades that I figured that if she was even half that good, I'd be set. And here's the thing, when I showed up she had really bad morning sickness and was super nauseated and still did a better job (and was even friendlier to this semi-introvert) than most people who touch my hair when they're feeling tip-top. Michelle is nice, sweet, and refreshingly sincere. She did a very good job cutting my hair. She did a nice job styling it and was nice enough to ask about product before putting anything in. (She explained the stuff she uses is pretty natural but I was hanging out with a finicky friend after so I opted "no".) Nobody stopped me but my friend noticed and said it was cute. I'm always weary though because when my hair is styled right after a cut it usually always looks good. The truth of the matter comes for me the next day because my hair has a mind of it's own and refuses to fall the in similar ways day in and day out. It's curly one day and straight the next and poofy another day. But here's the thing: The day after I got it cut (ie-today) I didn't even brush my hair and everyone (familiar faces and strangers alike) was like, "OMG, I love your hair. That's so cute." A few different girls stopped to compliment me on my hair and flirt with me. I normally get some attention but as a fat androgynous feminine trans person there's usually limits to the amount of attention I get from other queer femmes. Not today. I think Michelle may deserve the credit for that one as I was walking around in sweats with my nose in a book today. It was kind of weird on one instance since one person who complimented me was an acquaintance who in 3 years has never so much as one made eye contact and smiled directly at me before.... and there they were like, "Oh, I love your hair." *huge sincere toothy smile and just kept looking at me* But yeah, Michelle has my former-punk-but-still-look-the-part hair needs covered and will be my go-to gal for cuts. I will try to remember to brush my hair the next day, but hey, apparently her skills have me covered in the cuteness department even if I don't.
