I was so busy rebooting my life that I let my thick wavy hair grow out and "do its own thing"with disastrous results, for all of six months! What was I waiting for, but where to begin? I called one popular shop on East Main, but, despite promises, no one returned my calls . Luckily, I spotted Essentials Salon in the shopping center off of McKnight, then read a very favorable review of the owner's work the next day on Yelp. I called Linda, warning that she would have a challenge ahead of her, and reported to her modern, self-designed shop two days later. (Easy parking near eateries and shops was a welcome bonus.) Although she tried to hide it, Linda must have been as shocked at my appearance as I was, because she dropped her lunch, reached for her camera, and asked my permission to take an anonymous "rear view" photo. Quickly, she got to work--snipping, coloring, and styling, while keeping me hydrated with sliced strawberries floating in refreshingly cold water. Linda has a natural way with color (she got it right on the first try), but her very special talent is sculpting adorable, easy - to -maintain cuts that even Edward Scisserhands would envy! She gives her clients her complete attention, producing exquisitely chic results. When all was said and done, she spun me around to reveal a multi-dimensional view and whipped out her camera once again. This time, with my permission, she photographed the result of her efforts. We agreed that the most appropriate title for the second photo had to be "An Amazing Transformation!" Linda did a fabulous job of restoring my self-confidence, as she deftly transformed my appearance. I will definitely return again to place my new carefree coif back into her very capable hands!

Not worth the $400 hair cut & color. I had a consultation with Ally and I showed her pictures of what I was going for and the color I wanted and that went fine, no problems, but when I got done with my official appointment my hair didn't turn out how I wanted it from the photo. It was a 5 hour appointment and I paid $220 plus 20% tip for her time. A couple days go by and I compared the photo of what I wanted and my result and decided to ask her to fix it. I didn't clarify beforehand if the fix would be free of charge because that's been my experience at salons but no, not this time. I spent another $140 to leave the salon with still not really what I was going for and now it's been a month and still not impressed and pretty mad honestly that I spent that much money and got a result far from what I wanted but maybe it's not all her fault, maybe she thinks she did a good job or that she just did what she wanted, the photos I brought in of what I wanted didn't matter, maybe she doesn't have much experience, heck, she was the first person I made an appointment with since moving to a new area but I figured this salon could do better but I should've done more research. The color is so subtle hardly anybody has noticed I changed my hair and to spend $400 I definitely would've wanted it to be noticeable and receive lots of compliments-it's pretty disappointing. I'm not sure what to do either at this point besides get my frustration out in this review. I already tried going in to have it fixed and was charged and I'm not spending more than I already have...I could call the salon and complain but to what benefit? And I'm the one who contacted Aly. (hair stylist) Aly didn't go out of her way to let me know. I only know because I texted her. While I understand that unexpected situations can come up, what was disappointing was the lack of notice and the absence of any effort to offer an alternative solution or reschedule. When clients plan ahead and reserve time weeks (or months) in advance, reliability and communication are extremely important. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet those expectations. I hope this feedback encourages better planning and communication moving forward.
